Furnace

I think that I need my furnace checked (dirty ports). I have some yellow flame mixed in with the steady blue flame on occasion and it doesn't seem as though the house is heating up as fast as it should. How much does a service like this cost on average(St. Cloud area)? Is there any other signs that I should be looking for as far as poor performance? Any help is greatly appreciated...

I am a heating guy by trade. Really the only thing you need to do is pull the main burner out and take a wire brush to the burners and then blow it out with air. And if you have a pilot then pull it out and clean the orfice just make sure not to stick anything down the hole of the orfice cause you will damage it. If you need a guy my friend that is in business with me lives close to st. cloud but you would be looking at a 85.00 service charge to clean and inspect and get to running good.

A reasonable price to have someone who is in the biz and knows what they are doing and how to do it. Not to mention get it put back together the right way.

We had a clean and tune this year and found out our heat exchanger was cracked - a carbon monoxide danger. They shut the furnace down and we went with space heaters for 5 days until our new furnace got installed. We took advantage of the tax credit for a new high efficency furnace and the net price to us is cheaper than the regular 80% furnaces.

Well we had it looked at and the pick-up rate is still really poor. Takes about 1.5-2 hours to heat the house up to 70 degrees from 67. Shut all the vents in the rooms that we aren't using. Furnace dude said that they could install some beefier hardware to get it to warm up quicker. Hopefully the home insurance will cover the retrofit.

It's fixed!!! grin Found out that it was a fan-limiter switch. The tech said that it would run for approx 1.5 min and then shut off. Once everything cooled off then it would kick back in. I asked him about the it being undersized but he said because of codes when the house was built, it wouldn't have passed inspection if it had been undersized. Pretty happy that we got it fixed before this next snap of cold and wind.
