Buddy heater keeps shutting off

I bought a buddy heater used this summer. I think it is about 2 years old. I fired it up in the garage, and it seems to work ok. When I had it in my portable yesterday, the pilot light kept blowing out, and the heater would shut off. Is this a common problem that can be fixed? Is it just the very slight breeze that might be blowing it out? Thanks for any info!

could be thermal coupler needs replacing 6.99 if u can find one..also if the person that used it before u had it hooked up to a 20lb tank or a 11lb tank and didnt use a filter it could be dirty in the lines and not allowing enough gas through to keep it lite

Was there a breeze in your portable?

If you open a window or vent and let more oxygen in does it work?

If so it is cutting out from lack of oxygen.

It also has a bump sensor.

Did it cut out after being bumped or tipped?

I did have the windows open. it did not seem breezy to me in there. I also tried to close them for a while to see if that helped, but it did not. It was not because of bumping the unit- it was clear of everything. It would shut off almost every minute or two.

You might have gotten a spider web in there as well. Try blowing out the thermocouple with some air.

I just tried to run it in my garage again just to see if it was working. It still shuts off in there, too. I will try to blow it out with some air. Is there a way that I could try to clean the lines out if they are dirty?

Its a designed in flaw that has an easy fix. Take a stiff piece of aluminum foil and fold it over the bottom wire of the grill covering the area of the burner that glows. It should be at least an inch of foil. This will keep the wind from hitting the pilot and blowing it out. Problem solved.

Are you using a one pounder or do you have it connected to an external tank.

If it is connected to an external tank, do you have a filter in line?

I has similar issue last year. The wind was not the problem. I needed to clean unit as described in the owners manual. They refer to it as "routine maintenance".

If you are running a 1 pounder Im not sure what to tell you. But if you are using a 10 lb tank or biger, u need a filter. I had the same problem and the filter fixed mine.
