#fishhunt#
I picked up an Otter ice house from the neighbor because he was going to throw it out due to mouse holes in it. Since Otter does not make the double flip over style anymore and does not have any replacement covers for this, I am going to need to patch the holes. What have you used to patch wholes other than, you know whats coming... Duct tape? I assume this comes up a lot and there are probably prior subjects on this forum somewhere but since it is a new year I'm looking for suggestions. shnelson
How bad are the holes?Mighty mend it works well, get some extra canvas and stick it on with that. You can patch both sides of the hole if you really want it to hold.
#fishhunt#
The holes vary is size from 1 inch to 6 inches. Can you get mighty mend at Home Depot Fleet Farm and would I need to go to a canvas place for the material or are there any other places that sell canvas that you know of? I had one hole as big as a basketball in a two year old house! Worked great!
Blainebob
Iron on patches! Have worked great for me on mice holes in the past.
Jim Almquist
Get some extra patching material from Otter and use some 3M Super Strength Adhesive. I did the patching 3 years ago and they are still looking great. Reminds me I have a tear that I have to patch before I go fishing.
#fishhunt#
They still make Iron on patches?
harvey lee
I just purchase a patch kit from Otter and it came and worked well. It was a Tear Mender kit and was not a iron on.
#fishhunt#
The otter patch kit looks like tape. Is it flexible? Do you think it would it work on a 6x6 inch hole?
walleyewild
Fishhunt,The kit has a canvas swatch that is at least 6 x 6.Follow the directions on the tear mender and it'll work great. My patches are still holding after 2+ years.WW
icehousebob
One little hint with the patches. Make the corners round, don't cut them squared off. The points on the square corners are where they will start to peel off.
harvey lee
You are correct ICB, the circles are the only way to patch a hole and have them stay on for an extended time.
Todd Caswell
Try to find a company that does appolstry or makes boat covers, Iv'e used "Shoe Goo" for the addhesive, make a patch for both sides of the hole, put some shoe goo on both patches and press together. That stuff will never let go.
DP
A hot glue gun and a couple pieces of canvas is a good cheap fix.
