Ice Armour bibs VS other bibs, which is better?

If I was going to spend the $$$ and get a nice set of bibs and parka specifically for ice fishing, I would definitely go with the Arctic Armor, like Northlander says. Type "Arctic Armor" into youtube and you will get a good idea of what they are all about. It's like wearing a life jacket out there and could end up saving your life someday.

I haven't gone for these polar suits because I don't want multiple suits for multiple conditions in a year. Heck a guy could need all of them for one early June trip to Canada.

I go a size larger on Gortex bibs and one - two sizes on coats and layer polyprop/fleece/wool depending upon need.

A durable waterproof/breatheable shell and avoiding any cotton is the key.

All of the suits mentioned are great suits and will keep you dry and warm. If you're on a budget, I would go with whatever is on sale. The one attribute that sold me was that the Arctic Armor FLOATS and will save your life if you fall through the ice. So pretty much a no-brainer for me.

Whatever is on sale! Seriously! We're talking about ice fishing clothing!

I don't sit in a car and watch tip ups, I'm chasing Walleye. I spend a lot of time on the ice, so I would like a suit made for it.

Thanks for the help guys.

I've worn my Arctic Armor every month of the year except Aug I think.

i have used my artic armor in all condition from out in the boat in a rain storm to out ice fishing on sub zero days and it has not let me down yet. the stuff is great and the added factor that it floats is nice. and yes i have tested that. and it works.

All the suits mentioned are very good at keeping a person warm..

I asked Santa last year for Arctic Armour... Instead he brought me Mustang Survival because it is a coast guard certified PFD...or so the note enclosed with it said from my Granddaughter, of course at the time she was only a year and one half old.... I am very satisfied with it.

Just another name to toss out into the ring.

Guess I'm a minority. Bought a set of Blizzard Pruf (That's the spelling) by Wall's at GM 3 years ago. They were the only place I could find an xtra large/xtra tall. Have the leg zips/ snaps, adjustable shoulder straps, zip and snap front, and boot straps. I just love 'em. A little on the warm side, sometimes, but for $75.00 on sale, no gripes. Quality stuff. I'm happy.

I suppose I'm a Vexilar Cold-Snap fan (easy to say when you own the product). I've had the bibs for 3 years. I'm pretty hard on them, but they're holding up nicely. Plus, they might be on sale right now at FF.

This will be my first winter using the parka. I'm a little concerned that it may be too warm for a big strappin' fella like myself.

best of luck!

I have 2 sets of rain gear 1 is Gor Tex but for ice fishing I wear the old stuff from Gamehide and keep the Guideware for summer fishing. Under Armour, polypropolene and a hoodie are all I need under it to stay warm. If I need I can add a fleece pullover on under it. Untill both these sets wear out I won't be getting a new set. For me being dry and loose in the late fall is more important than being insulated and bulked up. Besides my house is heated and rarley fish outside unless theres few others around. I don't like the neighbors seeing what I'm catching.

Took a sled ride at X Mas last year dressed like this and was just fine, partner had the IDI Arctic suit and was warm also. Could have used a helment or face mask though cool

WOW all these posts and not much mention of the padding in the knees and rear end. I am either on a bucket or kneeling while out fishing. I like the support the built in pads add for your knees and rear end. You no longer need a cover or pad on the bucket. That is what sold me on the ice armour suit. I also like the fact that i can take the bibs portion off and have just pants. My son has the vexilar suit and it has pads in knees and not rear end. PLENTY of pockets in Vex jacket. Floating suit has my attention the next time i need to up-grade or replace.

I have a million different jackets, so I just needed a set of bibs.

I purchased the Ice Armour bibs when they sold just the bibs by themselves. I love the reinforced butt and knees, plus they fit ME the best compared to the other brands.

I would recommend trying them all on and make the decision.

If AA made them with a tall skinny size, I would have got em.

Just my 2 cents

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
