ford ranger milage??

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at a '99 ford ranger. it's an auto with the 4.0 has 140xxx miles. what can I expect to get for milage with this thing both empty and pulling a trailer with my wheeler?? up until now I've been looking at 94-95's with the 4.0 and a stick shift, but this deal might be too good to pass up!!

Ryan,

My son has owned a 1999 XLT off road 4x4 for 10 years and gets anywhere from 17 not towing to 14 towing. It's a bit thirsty

but has plenty of torque. He has the 3.73 rear end so gas mileage isn't going to be that good but pickup and torque is good.

I had two Rangers with the 4.0L V6 and lower gears (4.10), 2001 and 2003. The '01 would get up to 24 mpg on the highway. The 2003 had a limited slip dif and I don't know if that made a difference but the best I got with that was 21 mpg.

I towed a Alumacraft Navigator 175 with the '03 and the mpgs would drop to 12 - 14.
