Rifled shotgun barrel

Recommended Posts

When I use a slug gun, I use a rifled barrel as I believe they are more accurate at longer distances.

I had a fellow tell me the other day that the new smooth bore slug guns are just as accurate as a rifled barrel.

I have not used a new smoothbore for many years, is this possible?

the smoothbore slugs are getting better, federal truballs are supposed to be pretty good, but I agree, there is no way a slug moving 1100 fps from a smooth bore is as accurate as the winchester partition gold flying out 1900 fps through a rifled barrel

A hunting partner dropped a doe in her tracks at 200 yards with his rifled 870 this year. No way I could do that with the smoothbore 870 I shoot.

I really liked the old Brennekes, too bad they aren't around any more. Truball have been working for me though.

I shot my deer this year (first ever shotgun hunting, i usually am in rifle zone but wife was due with baby so couldnt travel 6 hrs north) with the standard green/yellow box of remington rifled slugs out of my smooth bore 870. wow. what a hole. i got my deer at about 20 feet though.

I will agree to a rifled barrel being accrate but I have a 870 with a factory smooth bore barrel and I can pretty much drive tacks (Big Tacks) with it at 80yrds and I am confident that I could take deer at 150yrds and have done it once or twice before. The first shot needs to the most accurate winkgrin
