I've got the Sprint HTC Hero right now and absolutely love it. It's the hardware equivalent to the Droid Eris. If I wasn't under contract with Sprint through work I would be all over the Motorola Droid. It's a spec. bump up from the Eris and with the physical keyboard and Android 2.0. I think it's a sweet device. The Eris is a fantastic deal for the price, if your at all interested in Android, the Droid Eris is a nice way to get familiar without breaking the bank.

A friend has the Verizon Motorola Droid and I can say without a doubt that it is the coolest, smartest, feature packed phone I’ve ever seen. If I could get out of my contract with my Blackberry today to get one I would.

Is the Eris running the same Android OS as the Driod? I thought the Eris was running v1.5 while the Driod has v2.0.

You are correct. The Droid also has a faster processor.

So after I posted this I discovered that two of the sales guys that work in my building have them. One has the Droid, the other the Eris.

I'm partial to the Eris because it is slimmer and appears to be better built then the Droid (HTC vs Motorola).

I know the Droid is faster, but the Eris seemed fast enough from the demo he showed me.

My T-Mobile contract doesn't expire for 7 months so they will all change by the time I go to buy. I hope they improve the Eris to the same 2.0 Android and put a faster processor in it. That would be ideal for me then.

Just checked out he cousin's Droids and frankly I was disapointed after all the hype. The keyboard is so horribly small I couldn't even type on it "2 small" . The TS keyboard was better but not great.

What exactly is so great about it? I keep hearing how great it is but have yet to hear anything of substance.

I've heard some of Apps don't' work.

I did get to mess around with one a little more and it is growing on me.

The voice actuated search is pretty sweet and works quite well. The Cuz was coming up with answers to Who Wants to be a Millionaire in literally just a few seconds.

With any smart phone I would wait to purchase one.

Iphone had two gen's that where discontinued for a reason. My cousin still has a first gen he paid over $500 for a couple years back that has only 1/8th of what my 3G has for $300 (now $100 less than a year later). Then they came out with the 3GS smirk

Make sure you buy the most GB you can afford. Once you start running with the phone, you will be amazed at how quick the GB's just go by.

I have been in the computer field for 12 year or so and the one thing I can tell you all is staying on the bleeding edge is expensive and if you wait a few months the cost will normally come down and there may be a few fixes for the bugs that are always there in a brand new model.

The Droid is priced some what reasonable.

I'm under contract with Verizon for 7 months still and I can get into the Droid for $200 plus a $35 activation which I've heard they'll wave if you complain enough.

If my contract was clear right now I'd get my $100 phone upgrade deduction and I'd be into a Droid for $100...New 2 year contract of course with that deal.

There was one stipulation that along with the Data plan you needed to have an E-Mail Package? Does anybody know what that is/cost?
