DonBo
I have a great opportunity to deer hunt in the metro area this year. I've always hunted rifle areas before. My question, I have a couple shotguns to choose from, my turkey gun that I can use a screw in rifled choke, (has fibre optic rifle sights) or a smooth bore with modified choke.Without firing 10 boxes of shells to figure what might be best, can you narrow the choices down for me as to what might be my best option? DonBo
Smooth bore, truball slugs..... So, is truball a brand name, or type, or? Sorry, I know nothing about slugs.
Dave S
Tru-Ball slugs are made by Federal. I'll second what Picks said. That would be my choice in your situation.
Neighbor_guy
I'd shoot the turkey gun w/a IC or M choke.I'd shoot Brenneke's threw it.But thats just me....
tracker x-2
I have never tried the high end $ ones but the Rifled winchesters or fedaral for 5 bucks a box always group well for me.
lawdog
The problem with a rifled choke tube, is you have very little rifling as you are talking only a couple inches, questionable whether it would be worth trying that and sabots although I did shoot them for a few years through a rifled choke tube with fair success. I'd say your best bet is the smooth boore mod or i/c and I've never shot the truballs but the rifled slugs do a decent job an most guns I've shot them in... DonBo
Thanks for the replys but I don't have any chokes for my turkey gun other than Xtra Full. Doubt that would be a good idea.In my other gun, IC or Modified?
