Looks a relatively small blower. Is the motor weak?

I'd imagine your looking for something cheap that can be recycled off an old furnace.

Do you have collection place in town you can go and pick through?

Give a call to the heating guys up there, someone has to have on laying around collecting duct. I see them from time to time, I'll keep my eyes open.

Thanks, Frank. It goes OK but even after I've cleaned and oiled it (this is an old picture), it's still not pumping enough air. Just the limitations of the fan/motor, I'd reckon, or age.

With our two-story house, we've got quite a few duct runs snaking here and there and it takes a bit of muscle to push the heated air hard enough. The propane furnace fan itself is way too powerful for the wood furnace, though when we get a lot of heat built up in the ducts from the wood furnace we will run the main furnace fan for five minutes every 20 minutes or so to get more heat into the rooms.

The opening on the back of the furnace where the motor/fan unit mounts is 5 inches by 9.5 inches. No real idea what HP the motor is. I've been looking for over a year locally with no luck so thought I'd widen the search a bit. It's no emergency.

You should be able to get a new squirrel cage type free air blower fan - they are commonly sold at indoor garden/brew stores in these parts - does Ely have that sort of thing?? smile

This model has a 5 x 9.5 outlet flange, mfg# 7063-5176 by DAYTON

Thanks, guys. Del, the JUCA motors are exactly what it appears I'm running now, and they have more powerful models available. Fishwater, same with the Dayton model shown here. Randy, what's the name of Darrel's shop and where is it?

Update: I called Lamppa Manufacturing in Tower. Once I told them whose house it came out of in Ely, they knew it right away. They sold the stove 35 years ago, and said that you can't put a stronger blower on it because the air exchange chamber in the stove isn't big enough to accommodate it, and the back pressure would just shut down the blower.

He did say that the motors they put on those stoves today (same dimensions and cfm) are much better motors, and that even though I'd oiled and cleaned up the old one, it might just be worn down from age and use, and a new $120 blower probably would increase air movement significantly.

Interesting. I had the blower and motor off again today, and even though I cleaned it all up this summer, some pretty serious gunk had worked its way into the shaft and fan blades. Not really sure how that happened with less than a month of operation, but I cleaned it thoroughly again and blew compressed air through the motor and oiled the shaft again and it's pushing more air.
