Retaining Mauer

You guys ever get the feeling we will never understand how athletes minds work? 3 million dollars is a vast sum of money. No self respecting high profile player would play for that amount. I just cant wrap my head around why anyone would let money they would never ever spend determine their life circumstances. Mauer has made enough that his salary is for the upcoming generations of Mauers. But if I was making $10.5mil I would have 4 families. If you had 2 dozen kids you might wanna go make 25 million somewhere else, I guess.

I don't think you can look at it in the normal terms of the average joe life. To compare..... if you were a painter and made $15/hr, but had a chance to go work for a company that paid you $25/hr, would you go? Most of the time without a doubt.... I know what you are saying about all that $$$, but they are some of the rarest people in the world and their skill allows their companies(teams) to make millions of dollars...

Right on!

I couldn't agree more. As it stands right now baseball is a joke. Occasionally a small market team will make a run but it's mostly money that winds up winning.

The only issue is revenue sharing allows baseball to survive. Without it, many teams would not make it and the fact that the Yankees spend a ton allows teams like the Rays, Marlins, Twins, etc. to share some of the revenue the make because they spend a ton. With a salary cap, the league would be smaller...

I'm sure that minnesota is not the only place that is sick of seeing the yankees win every post season. They have made a salary cap work in other sports and should make it work with baseball. Hockey got their act together in favor of making the game and league more intresting and baseball should too.

Its the bottom of the tenth right now bases loaded and I'm pulling for the angels!

Pohlad family will never come close to offering him what at least 5 other teams will pony up, mark my words on that one.

And no other team will have a chance to make an offer to him until after the 2010 season. If they do or even start to leak [PoorWordUsage], it is tampering.

Mauer will stay here. Twins will pay him darn close to top dollar. I bet they offer 5-6 years at around 17-18 million per. It will be up to Joe if he wants to risk another year behind the dish to go after 20 per, or if he takes the Twins 150 million and signs the dotted line and become Minnesota's most beloved athlete of all time.

I think he stays. Mauer, Morneau, Kubel, Span. Those 4 will be here a long time and are 4 of the best hitters in baseball. The rest of our position players are all on borrowed time.

Where they going to get the money to keep Kubel and Span? As a DH Kubel is very good so he will attract intrest and big money. from the Yankees, Red Sox and other big money teams. And Span will be a big time center fielder. And I don't think he has forgotten how he was treated by this team and Mgr. a few years back.
