Deer hides

What does everyone do with their deer hides? Hard to find some place that will take them before the hide drop-off boxes. Hate to waste a usable part of a deer.

The last couple years I have taken mine to Fleet Farm. You get a coupon for something like 6 or 8 bucks of a purchase in the store. I don't know if they are taking anything yet, though.

Down here we have a fur buyer that takes deer hides in trade for a pr of gloves, and i've heard of some that would buy them too. We just stick them in the freezer til later in the year.

I donate mine to a Mn Deer Hunter's Assn collection box.

You can freeze them, or salt them good, and save them till the collection boxes come out.

Uber's in Owatonna will take them in exchange for a pair of nice buckskin gloves. They will also tan them for you if you want. Save several and have a nice vest or jacket made from your very own hides, pretty cool.

This year and last year I shot my deer in the hot September weather, so I didn't bother trying to save the hides. I didn't know anyone actually gave coupons or anything anymore, they used to when I was young and we saved hides, but not for quite a few years that I knew about anyway.

Hides for Habitiat. Dont complain there is no public land to hunt when you trade a hide for a cheap pair of gloves.

The MDHA drop boxes are great, but there are no boxes open for bowhunters. I think thats what the original post is about. The boxes don't show up until rifle season. What do you do with your bow killed hide before then?
