hainestaylor
i will be fishing for muskie on mille lacs on october 15 and 16. i have fished there for walleyes but never for muskie. i think we will launch near the south side of the lake depending on the wind. are there any spots that r good for muskies? what should we be looking for in structure or weeds and depth and what sort of lures should we use, any info would be GREAT! 10,000 Casts
Try and find the best green weeds you can. There are plenty of rock piles too. Try and find the points and inside turns of the rockpiles. Don't forget about topwater. Any cowgirl should do the trick...
hainestaylor
and what kind of leader should i buy???
Cold Front Pooch
Thats all personal preference on the leader, I Like mono or folourocarbon, but make sure its over 100lbs. That or a good 7 strand or wire is sufficient. Have you muskie fished much? Before u dive in with the cowgirls and bulldawgs make sure you have sufficient equipment to handle these baits, when you use inferior equipment it is very tiring and the odds of getting a good hookset drop pretty dramatically. Based on my recent trips (Both walleye and muskie) Is those fish are out chasing those big tullibees so if you see suspended baitfish on the sonar it definitly wouldnt be a bad idea to throw or troll over the baitfish... Good Luck
hainestaylor
WHICH AREA OF THE LAKE DO U THINK WOULD PRODUCE THE MOST MUSKIES
Musky Buck
The area where they are biting, you'll have to experiment but I'd stay on the rocks now.
50inchpig
wind will probably dictate what area of the lake you fish this time of the year. i'd map out some of the rock structures in each quadrant of the lake and be prepared to fish any of them. urban cowboy
See if you can get a guide. I never fish a new body of water without a guide my first time out on big trophy lakes.
hainestaylor
i would love to get a guide to show me how to do it, but... i am a 16 year old kid with very minimal money on hand.
50inchpig
you can do much worse than hitting the reefs in the 12-15 foot range, i'd strap on a dawg and go at it.
hainestaylor
I went to gander mountain yesterday and I found a 10 inch suick thriller there for only 7 dollars and its usually 20 dollars so I bought it, is that a good lure?
MikeEiden
You scored on that deal... Really good lures and works all season long. Buy a weight set for it and you have a very versitle lure.

hainestaylor
I just won a 100 dollar gift card to gander mountain, what should i buy with it?
MikeEiden
A weight set gives you some screw-in inserts that allows you to add weight to a lure. Jomusky makes a good set for a decent price. http://www.jomusky.com/weightset.html Check out his HSOforum for ideas but most on Suicks add the weight just behind the front hook hanger. The possibilities are endless once you start playing with weight changes.
