Howling Animals in Brooklyn Park??

OK, so I may be out in left field on this, but a few nights over the past week at around 10PM I have been hearing the most blood curdling howling coming for the parkland behind my house in Brooklyn Park. It starts from a sound like a super loud cry/groan/howl and is immediately followed by every freaking dog in a 10 block radius going bananas. This lasts for about 2 minutes and then stops as quickly as it began.

The original howling doesn't really sound like a dog. More like a cross between a dog and a cat that is in excruciating pain. Could this be coyote (1 or more) roaming the park area? Whatever the sound is makes my wife want to dial 911 and close all the windows. I think it's kind of cool but would sure like to know the source...

I wish I was. grin Our deer hunting party got 2 that year and one each of the following 2 years.

Considering the grey fox that's been visiting our yard and the red fox that trotted through earlier this summer at 11 in the morning, I think the 'yote population is down considerably.

My uncle told me there was a group who runs them in this area with dogs. They stopped to ask for permission to hunt his land to which he obliged. During the conversation, it was mentioned they had 76 'yotes by that point for the season. They covered a large area to get them, but still a commendable number.
