Fish'n guy
so here is my question...what are the majority of the ducks you shoot on lakes like Mille lacs, LOTW, or leech? Any good mallard shoots on these lakes, or mainly just divers?I guess I dont hunt water very often in minnesota unless it is a small pothole full of mallards so i was just wondering what the big water is really like. Its kind of interesting hearing about some of these big "walleye" lakes getting in on the duck hunting action.
stretch
machohorn, i am always game to take a duck hunting trip. Let me know when and where you would want to go. cutter08
I hunt leech allot and it depends on the time of the year and where you hunt but you can get into a good puddle duck shoot or diver shoot. But we usually get a pretty good mixed bag. The later in the year the more divers you shoot but there are still allot of mallards around. Its kind of interesting hearing about some of these big "walleye" lakes getting in on the duck hunting action. I don't know much for LOTW, but leech & winnie get a real good mallard flight sometimes. Not so much the last couple of years, though. Lately there's been some really good populations of ringbills. It's definitely a different kind of hunting. There are some spots on leech & winnie that are full of wild rice, like third river on winnie, but sometimes you just set up on a point with a bunch of cattails and pass shoot. One of my best memories was setting up on Raven Point one year when the snow was coming in sideways and beating the snot out of the sky with mallards and scaup passing by with a 45mph wind on their backs. If I remember right 3 of us burned through 9 boxes of shells that day (I've never been a great wing shot). I have no idea how many ducks blew by us, but it was ALOT

fishuhalik
My dad and my buddy are pretty good shots, but shooting at a little bird doing what looks like about 120mph brings out the worst in all of us.
