Albino Deer!

Honest, I was on my way to work this morning south of Hawley and we were driving along and my foreman said "What the **** was that?" "What was what?" I said, he said there was something white standing in the ditch.
"Looked about the size of a deer, but it was white!" Ya right, a white deer. The ditch was mostly white with a dusting of snow so I didn't notice. Well that was all it took for him to turn around and go back to take a second look. Well we all know that when you turn around to go back to look at a deer standing there, 9 times out of 10 its gone. Well it was gone from where it was, but, it was across the road standing broadside about twenty yards away. "Holy **** it was white, and it was a small buck, with spikes on its head. We watched in amazement as it slowly walked, then started to trot until it disappeared into the woods. Has anybody else in that area seen this Albino deer?

5 years ago we had one running around near my house in Wannaska. Forkhorn type, never did heard of it being shot or read of it being shot in any local papers. Saw it about 8 or 9 times thru that late summer.

We had one in our woods near Marine on St.Croix, for 4 years we watched him. Each year he got darker, untill eventually he was all brown. Was fun to watch him though!

They are celebs. in the areas that you see them. Most of the locals usaully know about them and you would be less than mud in that area for taking the animal. I heard of one once that a guy shot, and the whole community scorned him for doing so.

I haven't ever seen one but it would be cool. You were lucky to see it, go buy a lotto ticket!!

2 week ago I seen a white doe, and got it on vidio. I have never seen one and I'm glad I had my cam with. I live in southern MN.

In the 90's there was a group of albino at Father Hennepin State Park up on MilleLacs. The past few years they have not been seen. The doe was shot by a farmer who's land is adjacent to the park.

I saw a very nice buck by Father Hennepin last year my dad got some good pictures of it, they would have been better with his zoom lense setup vs his digital. I couldn't believe my eyes at first - really cool.

Although I don't know if it was truly an albino, I did see a white deer in the middle of a cut corn field near Monticello about 10 years ago.

I don't think I would shoot one if I saw it during season......unless it was a massive buck. I guess that would be the trophy of a lifetime, huh?

There was one hanging out by Fleming Foods in Superior, WI for a couple years. I don't know if its still around or not. Kind of neat to see them around.

There is a web site that has Trail Cam pics on it. You should see all the different Albino deer people catch on their trail cameras. You can figure out the site I am sure.

Yes, There are still Albino deer at Father Hennipen state park. I took some video of one last Fall. I got to within 40 feet of it.

About 8 years ago an albino 8 or 10 pt buck was shot next to my Dad's property. I saw the thing about two weeks before the season. I was pheasant hunting and I saw it sneak into some willow swamp. I hiked down to where I saw it last. It jumped up about twenty yards from me and then slowly ran off. It was a big buck with a nice symetrical rack.

I was deer hunting with the in-laws so I wasn't hunting on my Dad's that year. My Mom saw it running around until the neighbor shot it. He did a full body mount and the buck makes appearances at deer shows. It could have been my buck. Oh well....

Nice pictures! Thats what that one I saw looked like. The first time I saw it was at a long distance and I wondered why a goat was running around on my Dad's farm. You can't shoot albino's in Wisconsin so that boy should be safe®.

After seeing the photos, I can see why the locals usually keep their existance quiet, at least that is what I have heard. They do not want that hunter to shoot it for the rare mount. They look spooky...

If you ask me, shooting one of these would have to result in 12 years of bad luck. No, worse than breaking a mirror. Wake up and realize you are married to the national hog calling champ..Olympic gold medal winner in the nagging competition.

Now the albino squirrel.....

Hate to contradict myself but wondering what the meat would be like. On these albino animals, is it normal or would it lack color also? Again, I would never shoot one, just curious.

Spooky is right, if I didn't have someone else with me I don't know if I would believe it my self. You feel like you are looking at a ghost. I'm fighting the urge to drive back down there and watch for the thing every night. I would like to see a picture of that squirrel, can you get one?

Growing up around the Detroit Lakes area, I saw a "pie-bald" or "pinto" deer (doe) a number of times, even managed to get a few photos. She was mostly white, with brown spots. I tried bowhunting for her, but no luck.

We harvested a pie-bald 8 point buck about 5 or 6 years ago. Strangest thing I ever did see, he even had pink hooves. I myself would never take an albino, there is just something neat about have something that odd running around in the woods! Its kind of freaky though!
