When will there be first ice

16 posts in this topic

I haven't seen this for a while and all your posts are getting me way too fired up. Have already planned a local outing and a few out of towners for the season, but the bigger question is when do you think there will be fishable ice. Low in the teens tonight and again on Thursday. Thanksgiving this year or is that dreaming??

Not soon enough... I plan to be out up north the first weekend in December, but if I can get out sooner in the Cities I'm all for it.

Our lakes aren't anywhere close to icing yet, temps have been in the 20's at night and low 30's in the day but none of the smaller ponds even have a thin layer of ice.

Awesome! How big of ponds are you talkin? I hope to be on the ice in Bemidji a week from today..

I hope it gets real cold and calm tonight! setting up to be a perfect ice making night.. Lows in the low teens to single digits! I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!

I plan on driving around in the brainerd area saturday and finding some small lakes to ice fish. If it happens this will be the earliest i have been out that i can remember.

Just becareful and make sure to bring a buddy and to check the ice, We dont need to be hearing of anyone going threw the ice already. Didnt the news stories pop up pretty early last year because of something like that and we sure did here alot about it.

I've got 8.5 degrees right now. I'm going to go out later and check out the bays and shallow lakes and see if I can get on them. If not today, they should be good by Friday.

Clear Lake in Waseca had a large sheet of ice on the southern end. I Imagine the warmer temps today and tomorrow will put an end to that. Rage
