we seen plenty of others.

we also seen some HUGE carp. one that looked like it would push 40. a couple in the 30s. and many in the 20s. they were all patrolling along the surface. there were so many it was almost unbelievable!

we didnt get any, but we are planning to go out again and catch some of them, and also get DrRodey's first bowfin

some other pictures from today:

hit the sauk today.

was greeted by hundreds of carp right away (this was only a small strech that they were in, but each pod (dark spot on the picture) had over 5 carp. and a maximum of around 20

i waded out and tried to get some on the fly. as the sun rose they all sunk down to the bottom of the river.

the fishing was extremely slow, so i decided to bottom fish. after about 30 minutes of not getting a bite, i decided to recast, i piked up the rod, and felt weight. i set the hook, FISH ON!

i rebaited and recasted. and after a while i cranked it in. only to get snagged. so i wade out and i find that i am snagged in a huge mass of line and lures! after working on pulling it out, i finally got it! ( i was getting ALOT of weird looks, a 17 year old boy out in the middle of the river, yanking at something in water up to his neck is bound to get some attention) lol

101_1305.jpg

101_1307.jpg

it also came with a free pair of polarized glasses laugh

101_1306.jpg

as me and my dad worked on cutting all the lures out, i got a hit, i set the hook. It was a BIG fish! instantly pulling drag! (keep in mind i am using my carp rod and 40lb braid so the drag is set fairly tight) after a 5 minute battle, the fish rolled on the surface a big carp! over 20lbs! and right then, the hook pulled. dang it =[

we continued working on the mass of lures

all the lures i got from it. they just need to be cleaned, and have the hooks replaced wink i also got plenty of weights

101_1308.jpg

after a while of nothing i packed up and moved. i decided to use a float and set it so a worm would roll over the rocks, it worked! producing this beautiful 17" shorthead

101_1314.jpg

then i saw a carp feeding very actively (feeding on all depths, it was coming from the bottom, to the top, and middle etc. ). so i waded out across the river to it, and when i get like 10 feet away, i start fishing. i cant get it to bite, so i wade closer and it comes to the surface and jumps! landing within 5 feet of me! scared the [PoorWordUsage] out of me. i was expecting it to spook, not jump. lol.

afterward it started feeding again. so i tossed my bait to it, and eventually my float bobs and goes down, i set the hook, and the fish jumps! i see it and thought "wow this carp is alot smaller than it looked"

after a short fight, i found it wasnt a carp at all, it was a beautiful shorthead! as i was wading back to get a picture taken, i look back, and the carp is still feeding there. i measured her!a new pb! at 20" on the dot!

101_1315.jpg

i released her, and waded back out to get the carp, but eventually it spooked. afterward we left

recovering peoples lost lures one reason why i love river fishing wink

another, many species of fish can be caught in one area laugh

this particular area has white suckers, carp, SH redhorse, silver RH, channel cats, black brown and yellow bullhead, pike, walleye, bass , panfish, and a few others.

ugh, i miss the orwell dam frown that is my favorite place to fish. so many species. and a rough fishermans paradise.

Nice fish, but I think the catch of the day was that big mess of lures!

definately! im glad i went out wading to try and get my line unsnagged wink

i just finished cleaning all the cranks

101_1328.jpg

now just gotta replace all the split rings and trebel hooks!

easily $20 worth of cranks right there laugh

and it was all because of this one metal post wink

101_1313.jpg

also in the mix there was over a dozen daredevles, spinnerbaits, and inline spinners! alll jigs, hooks, swimbaits and cranks were junk. but all inline spinners are easy to fix

here is an antique red eye wiggler that was also in the mix

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
