I have two fl-8's and the same problem now with both. Turn the unit on and I have red light completely around the circle display. Has anybody ever had this happened? Do the brushes need to be replaced? It is not the battery that I know.

Could be brushes or just needs a cleaning or moisture got in there. My Fl 18 did that to me after bringing it into my warm shanty, worked fine outside. It was fine after it warmed up. I chalked it up as condensation forming from bringing it in from cold conditions to warm.

Yep, just took it apart and cleaned off and they work fine.

how old are these units? what exactly did you clean off the brushes? they will get dusty in there as well after about 5 years or so i have read. do you just blow out with air hose?or wipe clean

Go on the Vex web site and they will give you instructions on how to clean your unit.

I found that if you cut an emory board it works really well instead of trying to use sandpaper. Just a little hint.

I have used the emery board trick and it worked very well.
