knoppers
yes I have done some stupid things at that age, BUT NEVER WITH A FIREARM. what they teach you in firearms training, always know your target.
Big Buck Buster
This kid should "NEVER" be able to handle a firearm again as long as he lives. STUPID,STUPID,STUPID!!!!!!!!!!If I were the one that got shot, and had my firearm with, you bet I would have fired back. I would have aimed low to injure, not to kill. kwiggy
So a kid is out plinkin' and accidentally hits someone else. Then a friend of that "someone else" comes out blastin' and shoots the plinker. ASSUMING that it truthfully is an accident, how would you feel as the retaliator? Just because you have a gun, doesn't mean it is always a good idea to use it.That being said, if I were in the same situation I would have a hard time "checking my emotions" and acting sensible. Any way you look at this, it has a lot of confusing angles. I guess the only way to explain it is sometimes bad things happen to good people. I agree with knoppers 100% about knowing your target and the posibilities of what might happen when you pull the trigger. ie: deflection, background, etc... The stuff they teach in common sense class.
russ
A bullet from a 15 yr old makes you just as dead as a bullet from a 51 yr old. When you're being shot at you don't have the convenience to wait and see if it's just an ignorant kid committing a "stupid, senseless, act." It's time to prepare to defend yourself. Everyone involved is fortunate. If the bullet hits two feet higher, many lives could have been permenantly altered.
knoppers
I guess thats what I should have posted on my first post. what if the person shot was a 3 year old, and shot in the head? what doe's it matter who or where they got shot, they got shot period, and the shooter knew he was shooting into a occupyed portable ice house. knoppers
croix, you have be confused. its almost that you support the shooters here. tell me that I am wrong.
croixflats
I don't support an eye for an eye. Yes I support the right to cary and to defend one's self but to an extent chosing when to defend ones self.

russ
Anyone who has a C&C permit knows that you don't just start shooting because you have a permit. You have the right to defend yourself with deadly force if your life is in immediate danger. Kids running away from you does not give you the right to shoot. I think we're all on the same page here. In the end hopefully a lesson was learned. Thanks all.
deerwoody
Point is those kids were probibally so scared and running away. Im sure thats what the guy thought that got hit.Oh those darn kids,I,m sure they will probably run away.
jigginjim
The legal system will let them off. First time offends, you know the attorney will be plead this thing out. I say lock them up for doing something so DUMB! Along with the parents. Raise your kids to respect, what a gun can do.
zamboni
The Sheriff said that they are getting a clearer picture of what the boys were doing, and that, "they were in that area shooting .22 rifles at bottles, cans, etc. This particular 15 year old shot into the ice shack." The way that reads to me is that the offender purposely shot into an occupied ice shelter, and knew what he was doing. THAT is the worse part, and to me does not seem like an accident. hunter101
i hope it all gets settled and the victim heals just fine. this is just unbelieveable. The comments in here about shooting back scare me, i trust that no one would actually do that if they saw people running away.
ZEEK1223
If he did knowingly shoot into an occupied house, that is more than just an accident. It could be a sign of the youth these days, that sit around and play video games, and watch movies. They really dont know that bullets are deadly. I will never forget when my dad was teaching me gun safety. The first think he said was "this is not a toy, and shouldnt be taken lightly. This is a tool used to kill." We went out to do some shooting, and he shot a pumpkin just to show me what kind of force one single round could generate. I have been gun shy ever since........lol........Not to make light of the situation, these kids probably never had training. They just got bored, and grabbed dads gun for some fun. Their distortion through media could have made them feel that guns dont kill, unless you empty your clip into them.
Sandmannd
We all did, but I never shot at anyone. And I am willing to bet the parents won't go as hard on them as ours did back in the day. I agree, did some dumb things as a kid, but what are they doing firing at a portable? This is ignorant to one of the highest levels. Do I think the kid deserved to be shot at if the guy had a gun? Hard to say. But did the guy out fishing deserve to be shot? Absolutley not. What if I was out fishing with my young daughter and she took the bullet. Would he be "just a dumb kid" then? deerwoody
The comments in here about shooting back scare me, i trust that no one would actually do that if they saw people running away. Those comments should scare you,we are talking life or death here.Every point in this post has been on self defense not shooting at someone running away.Sandman is right, hard to say without knowing the circumstances what would have went on if I would have been the one in the shack. Cold_blood
i've been shot at many times (not on purpose) while out duck hunting a couple by some guys that shouldnt have decided to ground swat some cripple when we were right behind it i launched some words but no shots and i've been on a lake with a private land owner that decided to sight in his slug guns and rifles and shoot towards the lake even after i announced my presences toward him he kept droppin the shots in the decoys so if somebody knowingly shoots at someone its absoluetly ridiculous extremly irresponsible and stupid

Fish Addictt
Put the kid's in front of the guy that got shoot. And see what they did!Take some of the heat from him! Then they most be procecuted !!!! IT does'nt say the kid new if someone was in the fishhouse? That does'nt matter. The point here is the kid made a mastake. Im going to guess the kid is feeling bad for what he did. Yes it should be a FELONI CRIME! Which mean's no firearms!!!
jd524
If I were the one that got shot, and had my firearm with, you bet I would have fired back. I would have aimed low to injure, not to kill. I would assume by your comment that you wouldn't be shooting in self defense, but simply out of spite.
