Tub and surround replacement

I have a cast iron bath tub that I would rather not have to take out because it's so heavy. I would like to buy a one piece tub and surround system that would just slip over the present tub. Does anyone know who or what company would do this? Has anyone had this done and are you happy with it?

Thanks for any information.

Also: Is it possible to break that cast iron tub up with a maul? I would think it would be next to imposible.

Actually they break up pretty easily with a maul. CAUTION : make sure you wear Good Safety glasses cause pieces will fly.

The first crack is the most difficult , after that it goes pretty good. I've done quite a few .......

There is a company that does overlayments for tubs and surrounds. I believe its call Tub Fitters or something like that.

I don't have any experience with them but I've seen a few commercials. Might be worth a look. Other than that just whack the heck out of it.

I have to replace my tub surround, its the old plastic tile. the grouting is all cracked and water gets behind them. . . My cast-iron tub is in good shape, although its LIME GREEN. There are companies that refinish them to a white, which is what im going to do, then tear out the tile, head to a home improvement store and buy the vinyl surround, unless i get really ambitious and ceramic tile the surround.

Breaking up the tub with a maul isn't that hard. As someone else pointed out, turn off the water and wear safety glasses. I'd also add, throw an old, heavy blanket that you can part ways with over the tub. It helps keep pieces of cast iron from flying all over the place (like into a window or a mirror).

also if you break one up make sure that nothing is below your drain hole I broke one a few years ago and had a 3x3 piece fall through the hole and hit the top of the dryer
