Smell Question

Hi Everybody,

So, I dug out the ice fishing tackle box from the garage a week ago. Yes, sadly, I haven't been out yet this year. Well, when I opened it up it was loaded full of dead asian beetles in the bottom. I can definitely smell the buggers too, on the box and on all the tackle. My question is, one, will this affect my fish catching chances, and, two, how the heck do I get rid of the stink? I see Berkley has a scent eliminating product out there, but it is a bit spendy. Anyone tried this before, or something else? I have a hard enough time catching fish through the ice the way it is, I don't need stink working against me as well! Thanks in advance for the help guys and gals!

I would almost think it may help attract some fish!

Otherwise, its a great excuse to get out and get some NEW gear !

I was just figuring that, since no other land or air critter eats these bugs, fish probably wouldn't either...We'll see I guess!

Use any kind of coffee as a Oder eliminator!After a day in your box the coffee will smell like the beetles do now.c63

hmm.. good point with the coffee. I have seen this done in other situations.. that is worth trying

how about trying those spray on fish attractants all over the gear or a few dead minnows or worms in there to over power the beetle stink after a few days?

The coffee beans worked great, left em in for 2 days, then took them out and just let the box air out for the afternoon before...I couldn't smell a thing! Even caught a few fish to boot!!

still wonder what it would have been like to try fishing with a dead beetle reeking nasty plastic of some type.... you could have been on something ! lol

Wipe it out with white Vinegar. Let it get some air afterward, it should be five. You may need to wipe down the contents too, to get all the funk out?
