Normally, these guys won't sit still long enough for a portrait type of shot.

Canon 30D .... Canon 100-400L lens ... ISO 640 ... EC +1 ... F8 - 1/100 sec. at 400mm and handheld. This was cropped pretty heavily to show the detail possible with the 100-400 lens. If I had been using a monopod or tripod, I'm sure it would have been even sharper.

I'll never part with mine. It's just as sharp of a lens as I'll ever need. I'm not saying all my shots are this sharp, but at least it shows the possibilities.

Mike I know that if I would have been hand holding it would have never been as sharp as that. Maybe it is time to give up the coffee

Mike I was tired of the pics that I had so I was going through Photobucket and just laughed when I saw that one so I had to download it. I have gone back to the birds but still need to shoot something for a new avatar but it will have to be more of a spring thing so might have to for the migration to start.
