Could i use a ugly stick 8.5 ft med steelhead rod for trolling....

I use Abu salmon/steelhead rods exclusivly for leadcore and long line trolling. I don't run dipsey or planer boards though.

Should work. Another option, not realy pricey either is to look at the limit creek trolling rods.

Diawa wilderness trolling rods are great and they only cost about $20. I have never heard anybody complain about them either.

I don't think it would work with a dipsey. You can get them cheap though so no biggy

My flatline trolling rods are actually steelhead rods. dipsey may put a little extra strain on them.

Not with a dypsie of any size. As 2thepoint says the wilderness rods are a great rod for $15-$20 depending on where and whne ya get them.
