CALVINIST
I recently started using the Gulp! waxies and the Powerbait power wigglers. They stay on your hook forever unlike live bait, which uyou always have to check and put on new. Matched up with jigs like LA Atomic Stealth, Diamond, or Maynards Flutter Bug, and you're good to go. One more thing, get a container of the Gulp! product with the liquid fish attractant and use the liquid to refill yout little containers of plastic Gulp! or Powerbait. opsirc
a lots of jigs come with the plastics already, do you fish them the way they are or add something else?
Scott M
Some of the plastics come pre-rigged as you say...Ratsos and Shrimpos, Northland Bro series plastics, Mimic Minnows.Other plastics that you can add to your jigs are listed in the link Borch gave 7 posts above. delmuts
One thing with the shrimpos and rastos. Awsome baits, but buy extra plastic bodies! Bluegills are especially hard on them.
Fred_Bear
I use ratsos about 75% of the time for panniesNorthland Bro series, little atom nuggies and micro nuggies are good too.I have used gulp maggots, waxies, and spikes and not impressed at all
NCLaker
Jor:I started ice fishing with a Genz Bug. Try it out you wont be sorry! My first experience with plastics was using a red glow Genz bug and glow Nuggie. Worked great for night bite crappies, gained a lot of confidence using plastics with this setup. Now i do a lot of experimenting with different plastic/jig combo's. For the smaller micro plastics, you'll want to pick up jigs with a fine wire hook. Also, when the fish are biting really lite, it REALLY helps to have a rod with a good spring bobber & flasher.Taught my brother, that knows absolutely nothing about fishing, how to use this spring rod & plastic setup. After about 15 minutes, he got the hang of it and was yankin them up the hold at a good clip. Biggest trick can be getting them to commit to biting - sometimes it's getting them to chase it, other times they want it sitting still.Like any new lure, it takes a certain amount of persistance and experimentation to gain success and confidence in a new lure/presentation. Keep at it you will be glad you did. Good luck!
TravP
One thing with plastics, if your new to using them try them while fish are agressive and biting. It will help gain your confidence.
