Need some answers

I have a Humminbird ICE 35 and I love it but I wasn't aware that the unit will not work properly in the open water because of the transducer. I asked them if it would work off the side of the boat slow drifting and they said no. Then a dealer told me they are coming out with a open water transducer? Then I call Humminbird and they say they haven't heard anything about it yet? Does anyone know the truth?

I am sure it will work just like a vex in the summer with the winter transducer.....you can get an idea of what depth you are in but it is difficult to tell if there is fish under you....I have used my vex a few times in the open water on calm days when I am jigging over the side of the boat and in those conditions it seems to work

There shouldn't be a differnce if it's hanging in a hole or hanging over the side of a boat. It won't work well if you're moving more than a crawl, but sitting still should be exactly the same as on the ice.

I would bet that they'll come out with a high-speed 'ducer for these units, too, before long.

If Humminbird say that they do not offer this, I would go with that.

I see no reason why you could not use it in a boat not moving for sure. You would need to maybe build a brackett to hold the ducer cable over the side of the boat.

When the boat is moving, that may be a different story.

A dealer could have misunderstood.

Some fo the Bird reps watch this forum and I'm sure they will reply with the correct answer.
