Wiring a 12V plug

Hello,

Working on installing a 12V plug for my GPS. Putting into a 1990 Safari. My thought is that I will splice it into my handwarmer switch, unfortunately I'm not sure which wires to drop it into. I do know that Yellow is Hot, just not sure which one is Negative. Any thoughts?

Yellow Hot

Orange ?

Orange w/ Blue Stripe ?

Does your handwarmer have a temp control? I would imagion that orange/blue is the thermostat for that but cannot say forsure. Maybe you could look at the temp control if there is one to see which wires go to that?

If all else fails wire it back to your battery and remember that it should be center positive. I just put my spare Marcum battery in my map bag on the gas tank and put a outlet that I can plug my H2O into and it works like champ.

or you could spend 10 bucks on a cheap multi-meter and avoid blowing up the new gypster.

Doubt any of the wires on the switch are ground.

Battery - is probably the safest bet, although the suggestion to buy a multimeter is good advice.

High, Low and Power would be my guess. The striped wire is usually Low, Orange High and Yellow power.

I think I used the Tail-light power for my Cig-Plug. I do agree with Whoaru99 and running it off something else other than the Hand-warmer switch would be safer.

As some have said, there's no ground or "negative" wire there. The center wire is positive power into the switch, and that power is being switched to either one of the other wires, depending which way the switch handle is moved.

You'd get pos & neg there,its also a common source with all the lighter plugins for electronics

Just be sure to put in a fuse holder as the first thing off the battery.

Whoaru, I picked one up this morning. I would hate to fry out my H2O.
