samtroy
Ok before i tell this story i know what your going to think. This is B.S. is this guy on drugs. But this is the truth and i dont think my son will ever forget this and will be telling every guy he see's fishing for a long time. Well here it goes.I got a call from my uncle and he told me about a lake north of brainerd where he was seeing alot of fish over the past weekend. So work was slow today I asked my son if he wanted to skip school and go spearing. I had a problem to get him to stay home he wanted to go to school. But i think today my have change his mind. My son is 10 and he's been out spearing with me the last 3 years. He's had some chances at fish but has never threw the spear. That all change today. The first fish came in before we were even done setting up. So he was excited. The next fish didnt have a chance to even get to the decoy he was throwing. I tried to control him but when number 30 came in he could not wait any longer. This is the fish in the picture it was 31". There was already 3 fish in the hole when this one came in. Needless to say we came home with are limit of fish and i didnt even get to touch the spear. I dont think i could of pryed it out of his hands today. He started to name the fish by numbers. Like 59 he thought was cool. He bounced the decoy off of this fish 6 time and it would not leave. I think this kid is hook on it now. The only problem is he may never see a day like this again. His final number was 94 northerns (9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.) I would never believe this if i was not sitting there. Now he wants to go to the GTG in feb. samtroy
He thinks its time for his own spear and house to i heard all about it on the way home tonight until he finally fell a sleep south of st. cloud. He had many of the fish go out and come right back but he only counted them as 1. They ranged in size from 1# to about 12# with the average size 3#. When we got home he seen schools were already closing due to the cold weather guess where he wants to go. I think i may be happier then he is that we seen that many fish. Cold_blood
so your sayin you saw 94 nords today? thats impressive sounds like it would be a lot of fun for tip ups but i couldn't even imagin seein them in a spear hole wow congrats and good luck
Neighbor_guy
I hope none of his teachers see the post, , might be hard to convince anyone he's sick with smiles and story like that. Glad to see you got him out and had a good day.
samtroy
My dad also came up and set up tip ups and only caught 3. He set up another fish house we had with and set a tip up inside to stay warm. He watched down the hole and seen many northerns come up to the sucker but would not bit. I found this strange because just about every fish we saw bit the decoy now it needs a new paint job.

triggertrav
i need some of those - i have had my son out a couple of times and yet have seen any. at 9 he doesn't have the patience - he would rather stare at a bobber for hours. Good work on the pike.
