SevenTine
I have a Nils ice saw that I picked up this year and it takes more effort to saw then I was expecting? Are there vast differences from one brand to another? This is based on 17"-18" ice thickness.
Early Riser
I have three ice saws and the nils was my first. Compared to Fish's saw I am using now and the one I got from Mark Wilkins the nils saw is a very poor performer. So I would say that yes there are vast differences from one brand to the next. Ice thickness is not as big of an issue as the quality of the saw.
Pooh
only had one saw, a nils. the teeth it are bad. (2 broke 1 bent) Ive only cut a dozen or so holes with it and seriously would rather spend the time chisleing. IMO wont buy another one!!! merkman
I haven't heard anything good about the nills ice saw either.I talked to a guy on the lake that had one of each and he recommended the Fish Saw.I have only used the Fish Saw and I am very happy with it. bassNspear
Seven, welcome to FM. Glad to have you part of the Family!I am sure Nils Ice Saw's are making improvements on there saws as we speak. They have been in business for sometime! My dad has one, and the blades are hard to keep sharp or straight in that matter. I have a fish toys saw as well! Very impressive and backed up with a great warrentte. If something is wrong, or needs work, they take great care of there customers and product. buddha
My dad has a Nils and I am so-so with it. I have a Nils auger and wouldn't trade it for the world. We don't cut too many holes in a winter but it isn't as easy as I thought. Good to see there are other options.
terrible_fisherman
I use a Nil's and it works pretty well. You can chip a hole to start it out but not real easy if more then 10-12 inches of ice. Also it can be hard to turn and keep cutting for the corners if you get more then about 15 inches or so as the blade gives a little. I have not had any problems though with the teeth bending or not staying sharp and I have had mine for a few years now.
BehindtheHead
i found a nils saw for 55 bucks and figured i couldnt go wrong. well sorry to say i did go wrong. the saw is just to agressive. you cant make a long stroke like with other saws i have used. i think a chain saw is the best solution to this problem. glenn57
i asked a very well named sporting goods retialer from walker about ice saws couple years ago, the same time and place i met bns, and they said every ice saw they sold got returned that year. and they were not fishtoys! you decide. i have a fishtoys and love it. Laska
which ones are the nils? I saw a greenish teal colored one at a baitshop for 95 bucks is that a nils? I dont know... Next season Im getting an ice sawheck with chipper and auger!
Pooh
black in the center and greenish teal on the ends. a better dollar spent sounds like it would be on fishs saw and not the nils
Fish Toys
I better put my 2 cents in here. Fish’s Icesaw has the BLUE blade with the WOOD handle. I looked thru some of my pictures but couldn’t find a decent one to post on here. The tip on the blue Icesaw is sharpened to a point so you can chip with it.
