Icegator review

Just wanted to let everyone know that I received my Icegator 3 days ago and went out yesterday for the first time with it and couldn't be any happier with it. I have my 6" Stikemaster Mora auger on it and it went through ice like butter. I was on 13 inches of ice and went through it in 2 1/2 seconds after we timed it. I can't believe how it pulled downward thru the ice when you start it. I can see why they say you would want to go back to gas again. No pull starting, no warming up, no gas leaking, no fumes and isn't noisy where the whole lake knows that you are using a gas power auger. Cutomer service was incredible and they stayed in touch with me until the time that I received it. The one thing about the customer service that impressed me was they told me to stay in touch with them and give them any new idea's or things that they should improve on it. Kuddo's to them, I am a happy owner of the Icegator.

How much dose that unit cost? Boar

I found the average cost on them is $389.00. This is just the power head, without the auger. Still a good investment for the price, if you add up all the gas,oil you will spend on the gas augers, and all the hassle will fumes in the house.

I looked at these at the ice show and they seemed like a nice unit, what I didn't like about them is that you still need to purchase a blade unless you have another auger you can "borrow" from. Considerinmg that fact it seemed a little high priced for a new product...... Maybe next year.

I'd be more concerned about the cost of replacing the batteries than the cost of a couple gallons of gas and oil. In the long run, the batteries will cost waaayy more. Good product though.

If you only go through a couple of gallons of gas a season, you must not fish that much.

I am ralating the cost for someone that is drilling large numbers of holes for many weekends in the season, or is always moving there house from spot to spot.

The batteries will last a lot longer than two gallons of gas.

I will be more that happy if I get 5-8 years on a set of batteries. NO SMELL,Can drill in the house with the door and windows closed, with the heater on. Drillin holes in comfort!!

I would think discharging the bateries so often with heavy loads be lucky to get 2 years.

A couple of gallons of gas will drill a lot of holes. I don't think you'll get 5-8years out of gel batteries either, especially if you drain and recharge as often as you suggest. Maybe 4-5 if you're lucky and don't use it much and take the time and care to properly maintain the batteries. The ice gator is a good product though - I had the opportunity to use one once on a weekday.

Well I've been out ice fishing 19 times this year, I'm well over 400 holes and I've gone through less than a gallon of gas, that plus the oil in it and I'm still at less than $4.....I don't think you'll save any money by going electric. I will most likely go through 3-4 gallons by seasons end with the thicker ice, so thats ~$15, less than the cost of a new battery.

I cannot speak from personal experience but it sounds like the ticket if you have a permanent house that you will be redrilling or moving often, but it will not replace a gas auger for guys who fish hard and drill lots of holes.

As for reopening holes, it would depend on the type of auger you put on it, something with a chipper blade would work well I think, but using a hand auger blade/auger wouldn't work to well for that.

So what you are saying is that people that purchase these are going to go through a battery per year? I don't think so. Even if you add up your calculations for five years with the oil, gas. That is $75 worth. I don't think that the batteries cost that much to replace. Even if it were to add up to be equal cost for gas verses electric, I would go with the electric for the convenience, cleanliness, and more environmentally friendly than gas.

You go ahead.....I don't want to hassle with changing batteries in the cold,3 pulls and I'm drilling holes. Also unless they invented a much better battery, I really don't expect much more out of them than a year will the full discharge under heavy load. I can't get much more than 2 years out of batteries on my LX-3, the cold is hard on them.

Not to say the Ice Gator isn't a good product, it fills a need for drilling in permanent houses, but it cannot completly replace a gas auger.

I have drilled over 230 holes through 15 inches of ice with mine and it was still cutting. Battery life is expected to be about 2000 charge cycles. THe best part is Im still catching fish with my clean hands while the gas auger guys are wondering why they are not after getting fuel on their hands. I have been reopening holes in my permy with it and its AWESOME!!!! No fumes, limited mess due to the control you have over the auger. I can drill at least 3 times as many holes as a I was with my gas auger with the same bit and have less fatige at the end of the day. Not to mention it cleans the holes for you when you hit reverse. I also like the fact that I can take it in the vehicle and hotel room without worrying about gas leaks and fumes.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
