lx-5 vs fl-18

I just switched to a LX-5 from an FL-18 and when they run side by side you can get rid of all of the interference on the LX-5. You can get rid of most on the FL-18. I'm very happy with my switch.

the thing i wonder about is when multiple units are being ran and your the odd man out with either brand.

i've heard both reports saying if your fishing with a bunch of guy's with vex's and you have a marcum your doomed....but then i've heard people say if your with a bunch of guys with marcums and you have a vex your doomed.

are u just better off buying what all your friends are using if there's gonna be a bunch of you in a shack alot?

i was at a store a few weeks ago and a guy came in and wanted to trade in his LX3 for a vex because he said all his friends have vex's and he can't even fish in their shack with it when they are all in there...i have a friend thats interested in buying a LX5 but he's paranoid for that reason...he was in the store with me at the time.

I think the LX-5 has the best interference rejection of any flasher, if you're using an LX-5 I don't think you'll be getting any interference on your screen.

If you take your time, work together, and adjust only 1 unit at a time, you should be able to get rid of most of the interference between Marcums and Vexs. The older the units are the more interference you'll still have, and the same goes for if you have the cheaper units from each company too. But .....

I fish quite a bit where we have an LX-5, and LX-3, and a FL-18 all going in the same house. All are newer units, I think the oldest of them is in it's 3rd year. We get ZERO interference on the LX-5, a little interference on the LX-3, and more interference on the FL-18 but it is still usable and readable.

On the other hand, I have a buddy with an old FL8 and he doesn't even bother turning it on around the Marcums anymore, you just can't clean it up enough to use effectively.

You can check them all out at Flashers At Pro Fishing Supply. Shipping is FAST and FREE!

I have the lx-5 and have fished with all kinds of different units nearby. I have never come across a situation where, I haven't been able to get rid of almost all of the interference. The only units I have seen that have problems against the interference from mine are the first model fl-8's.

FG- I have both units, and have yet to have a problem with my LX-5, and that was even at the Brainerd Event... the fl-18 was useless... When your not near a ton of people the Fl-18 is a great unit!

After using the new Humminbird this year, I have not once had any interference froma vex or mu LX5. I hasve fished by numerous other units and have never had any interference on the Bird yet.

The Hunmminbird Ice 35 seems to be a very nice unit. I will be trying a Ice 55 soon and I'm hoping it is as good or better than the 35 as the 55 is a 6 color.

I realize this is a thread about the FL-18 and the LX5 as far as interference but my choice would be a LX5 or a Humminbird unit. I have less interference on the Humminbird than I do my MarCum LX5.

nice... i have an fl-18 and have never had any major issues with interference...couple pushes of the button it's normally completely eliminated...i've had a few times where i get the occasional "blips" that come through pretty steady but i still know whats my bait and when a fish comes in and all that...depends how many units are in the same shack as me and how close they are.

i been in 6 man sleepers up on red where we all had flashers...occasionally had some interference but could still fish and see whats goin on.

the hummingbird 35 is a nice little unit...my buddy just picked one of those up and i fished with it for awhile when he stopped by my wheelhouse...i was helping him figure it out it's his first flasher but is quite different then the vex or marcums i've used or owned before....figured out how the zoom works and stuff for him...i thought the cable was pretty strange but gave him some tips i read on here about that.

being the lower end unit i wouldn't mind playin around with the 45 or 55 to see what they are all about...the hummingbird would be a nice unit for people that can't see the greatest...nice big screen and it isn't split in zoom mode...didn't get to test the interference on it though since thats the only one we were using i was gettin ready to leave and had the fl-18 in the truck when he pulled up.

this dan bro

i have a LX3. I bought a couples of years ago. Im thinking i should have bought a vex. im not as happy as i thought i would be with the LX3. I get alot of interfernce and the battery does not least as long as would like it to. My bro dan was a FL18. If i were to compare these two hands down the FL18 is much better.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
