Couple questions for Nils owners?

I recently purchased a new Nils and have noticed that the powerhead shakes like crazy when drilling the 8" holes but is as smooth as can be with the smaller auger shaft[promo right now is you get the small shaft with an 8" purchase, while supplies last]. I've checked and triple checked to make sure everything it tight and where it is suppose to be. Has anyone else had this same problem or is there's as smooth and straight? Possible bent shaft or are they suppose to wobble or shake?

My other question is that now that the Nils are becoming very popular does anybody have any idea how many are out there in use? 200?,500?,1000?,2000??? just curious. Thanks

Yeah its as tight as one could possibly get it, and the locknut too. Half round side to the collar. It cuts like a dream and runs great, it just shakes or wobbles the powerhead and its only with the 8" shaft. A exhaust shield has a small rattle but I'm not too concrened with that cause you can lay your hand on it and is almost gone completely, I just haven't taken time yet to see what is rattling cause it is minor. Thanks for your suggestions and keep them coming, hopely someone will hit on something that I'm overlooking. Thanks

I get a wabble also but only when I get towards the bottom of the hole. At first it wabbled quite a bit. I took the shaft off and reinstalled it and the wabble was minnimised to just finnishing drilling the hole.

Ive noticed there is a little play at the gear box I figure this is normal. I suggest lay the auger on the ground, everything attached, grab the shaft at the joint then lift motor to see how much play you get if it seems to much call service and see what they say. I get maybe 1/4 inch of play side to side.

It just maybe the act of reinstalling that may help.

I actually wondered this too. Mine definitely has a little play in it which seemes to be coming from the gear box. I have the 8 inch and have it tightened all the way and the flat part of the bolt is on the flat part of the auger shaft so it is not set up wrong. I guess if everyone gets a little wabble I won't worry about it but if everyones is tight with no movement I guess I am a little concerned.

2 of us have the augers. one 6" and one 8". Mine doesn't seam to wobble(the 8") but my friends 6" is all over the place. It is in essence a hand auger. Be very attentive when bolting it on there, as the bolt is holding it one direction but 90 degrees the other direction is what u need to keep straight. And yes get it good and tight. The wobble at the bottom of the hole is from the auger not being broken in yet and/or carbeurator not adjusted perfect. With and 8" bit the motor has quite a bit more stress and really needs to be dialed in to cut right through the bottom of the ice. I am on my third tank and now it zips right through. good luck

make sure the bolt goes through the shaft from the correct side...the head of the bolt should be on the big hole side of the shaft....tighten the bolt first then the nut.

i don't get any noticable wobble out of mine....it started to wobble real bad one day when i noticed the nut came a little loose...that was my first day out...tightened her up and never had a problem since.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
