I stopped by an army surplus store, and bought a small butane one burner cooker. The price seemed right, so I thought I would check it out. The cooker comes in a carrying case, and runs off of tanks that are the size of a WD4o can. weighs 4.4 pounds. cooker was $20, and 4 8oz butane cans were $10......two down sides I can see: I dont think it would work well in the wind, and the case is pretty cheap.

Ditto that. LMAO.

What's the name of the "small lightweight cooker"?? I don't suppose it could be fitted with a hose and 5 / 20# tank. I'm looking for something that puts out a bit less than traditional cooker, that doesn't have Buddy written on it. Thanks in advance.

PS - just re-read that it runs on butane. Sounds like I'm outta luck. Reply with the name anyways. Always looking for different "stuff."

Sounds like a great find Zeek. What is it called if you don't mind me asking? I am looking for a miniature cooker I can also use in the boat and this sounds like a winner.

Sounds like one of those Peak stoves. I dont think u can run them via a hose as they use butane, not propane.

I never even thought to look at the brand name, this might even be the same one. Looks the exact same. When I first bought it I cooked some venison breakfast sausage in my kitchen just to try it out, I was impressed. Then I brought it out to the fish house, for a fish fry with some friends. We usually use the standard coleman, and this little guy worked much better. The range of the flame is great!!! medium on the knob is actually medium. Not just really hot or really cold. The guy at the store said you could easily get breakfast lunch and half of dinner on one tank. After cooking two meals I would totally agree. The case is about the size of a small cordless drill case.

Not to speak down to your find but my buddy bought a butane cooker at a sports show one year - totally stoked about it. He took it on hunting trips and such.

He doesn't use it anymore because of a) wind problems B) cans don't last a long time considering propane alternatives c) can be hard to find refills d) turns out to be expensive to burn butane e) greatly affected by cold. He couldn't get the full use of the cans outside in cold weather. It would stop flowing.

They seem to be a GREAT summer camping item for remote trips though.

We both fall back on our heater cookers for ice fishing. Pre-make your breakfast and lunchs at home before your trip. vacuum seal it by portion. Take a small pot to dip in your ice hole for boiling water and set it atop your cooker that is already heating your porty. Catch some fish, while turning a couple times. Cut open bag and enjoy. smile

We had egg mcmuffins, cheesy hasbrowns, soup, and marinated porklion out on Red last weekend. Some people you invite for different reasons. wink

Good luck with your cooker ZEEK, maybe its a different kind and you'll be in warmer surroundings most of the time.

Yeah, you are right wanderer. The unit it worthless in the cold. I tried to fry some fish on my tailgate outside the fishouse, and the flame just wasnt full. I talked to the guys at the army surplus, and they said they put hand warmers around the tank. That worked really well, but not the hassle Im looking for. I got too excited too quick, oh well $20

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
