Its happend twice now after setting up go to light Big Buddy up and it wont. Had to bring it to kind people in there permanant house to warm it up then it would light up.

If anybody has had this happen whats the best way to light it if you dont have a place to warm it up.

Would it help to transport in a case to prevent it from freezing up.

What do you mean by "Freezing up"? Did you get some snow or ice in the pilot light area? I have never had that problem but I would assume a travel case would help prevent this problem. You can find a nice/cheap one at cabelas. Just my two cents....

KG243 could be right on.

I run my big buddy heater off of a 12 foot hose to a 20lber tank. It takes some time to purge the air out of the house before she will light. I usually just hold down the pilot light for about minute...or until I smell propane before I even try to start her up......

i have the regular buddy heater and im not quite sure if its working right. I can get the pilot light lit no problem but when i turn it on the pannel (idk what else to call it) does not heat properly, gives off a high pitch sound then poofs out.

im guessing this is only because it was stored outside in the cold with the propane and the propane is too cold to flow properly

would this be a safe assumption or is it possibly something more?

2 years ago at the burntside bash -20 with a rather hefty windchill and it sat in the portable as i walked out to one of the trout lakes, no cover on it, just on the portable, She fired right up ....Dont know what to tell you about it freezing up, maybe poor quality Propane?

Shawn

Do you use a regulator or 2 1lbers or...?

Well, it could have been purging time with anxiousness off wanting to get the lines in the water. Time does seem to stand still before the first line goes in.Ive been using

20# tank with a filter

This last time I even brought out a lighter just incase but it was one of those butane things that dont work well in the cold.Joke on me.

I'll keep an eye on the purge time and bring out some acetylene to get it started.

Thanks for the input

I had trouble with mine last year not wanting to lite. The problem with mine was that there would be an accumulation of frost on the pilot lite nozzle and the spark would not arc with the ignitor. I always carry a grill lighter with me now. If I use it to warm the area it will light just fine. I have not had the same problem this year but I expect to when it gets colder.

Hope this helps.

I had the same issues with mine as well. If it would "snap" the sparker, there would not be a spark when first trying to light it. After I had it running for a while, then it would snap and light no problems. My little buddy heater has none of those issues. Both of them need to be purged when using a hose though. Last time out I tried keeping one small tank on the big buddy and then connected the hose, it didn't take any time to get running that way. I never took it off to see if that small tank ran out before taking any from the big tank though.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
