Crazy Vexilar noises!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I just picked myself up a brand new FL-12. The first time I took her out on the ice it every so often, the motor started to get louder and the red bottom marking line would flutter. Has this happened to anyone else?

Every Vexilar I have owned has had those spasms. Just the nature of the beast.

I have a fl-8 & a 12 that do that, I wouldnt worry about it.

I have an old Si-Tex FL-5(Vexilar before it was Vexilar) and it does the same thing.

I know that this may sound silly, but make sure your battery is good and charged. I have this happen every so often, but happens more frequently when the battery is low. Hope this helps some. Good luck!

I haven't had that happen on either my Fl-18 or 20, or the 8SE that I use to own. I always keep my batterys charged up though.

They make noises but the flicker is battery related. Charge that battery for a day or so.

My Fl-18 makes some strange noise from time to time too. Never fails me though.

my fl-20 makes some noise at start-up if really cold out fine at a minute or 2

Be sure you don't have your flasher too close to your heater, I also have the flasher that was mentioned earlier in this thread the FL-5, yes an antique but still gets the job done. Heat will expand plastic and cause flexing and noise.

I know this wouldn’t help for the new unit, but for the older units that have been used for a few years- apparently taking them apart for a good cleaning gets rid of some noise..

The noises come and go on my fl-20, but goes away after a little while...

Welcome to the world of Vexilar!

I bought a FL 20 Pro Pack two years ago and it did that right out of the box but you know what? It works like a champ from day one.

From what I've found the vexilar's are quirky (buzz, humm, flicker, ect.) and do weird things but never break.

I thought mine was going out, until I was told sometimes they always sound that way. you just started to notice it more.

Noise is the main(but not only) reason I don't own a Vex anymore.

The only time mine has ever made noise is when it is set on some bare ice,and it vibrates a little.
