Roofer
They have all evolved quite a bit. Tell me which one ISN'T a Sportsman wannabe? Most of them started out as lawnmower engines, drum brakes, solid axles with 3-4 tires. All of the top models now are IRS, IFS, disk brakes, high output engines, with an auto tranny. Polaris just set the bar many times along the way. jltimm
Polaris did open up the atv world with their 500 sportsman, but after that they never set the bar. Maybe now with the 850 xp they stepped it up a notch with some new thinking. It's good for us consumers to have competition in the atv world. Roofer
I'll agree with that, except that with the 700 they introduced EFI. It wasn't top notch like the 500 was or the 850 is, but it was a new step for the future. In my posts, the 500 and the 850 are the ones I refer to the most....sshhhh
piker007
Well I cant say much about polaris yet just bought one. It is noisy. But I will say Honda is junk. I have had 2 and have rebuilt 2. Not great odds. Yamaha has been great for me. knock on wood! Kawasaki hasnt been too bad but have had some issues with them. I think Polaris gets such a bad wrap since everyone has one. It only makes sense that when everyone has 1 that there will be more problems with them!!
norm25
So after all that does anyone know where a guy should look for a used engine?

pikechaser
I knew my post would get some people going.. So now polaris invented the wheel?? That was the impression I got from reading roofers list. Sorry, just got a chuckle out of it. Personally I dont care for all the extra gadgets. All I was saying was that no, they did not make the first machine with true four wheel drive & fully independent suspension. They simply expanded on it(bigger is better..their opinion) & put their own spin on it. Flip a switch...not manually move a lever to engage it. As far as a motor goes, check out [YouNeedAuthorization]..lots of spare fuji engines/parts... Good Luck
Tyler23
the first design isnt going to be perfect. polaris just went out on a limb and tried to make a better machine thats more user friendly. there first designs were perfect but they were the leader and basically everyone else somewhat copied there design. since they had something to start with right off the bat istead of thinking up it all, they could try and perfect it more. norm25
Thanks for everything and nothing fellas I didn't want to bad mouth a manufacturer, I was just commenting that this was the second engine I would have to throw at this machine. I like my polaris, and for obvious reasons I am a bit angry. Next.Who has a 2 seater, and will they really work like they say? I need something on the farm that will hold up. Give me some input from the owners of the utility machines on towing and carrying capacity pro's con's?
