so new auger wont start?

Question

mixed the oil approximately 3 oz. to 1 gallon gas, maybe a little more, everything is on, air vent is open, compression relief valve in, full choke but wont go. smokes a little but never turns over. any thoughts. the only thing i can think of is a little too much oil, but i would think it'd still start, or maybe just return it.

Thats a bit of a rich gas/oil mix but it shouldn't affect the starting of your auger. Might smoke a bit when its running but its good to be a little rich on your first tank anyway for break in.

If its not firing up on you, the fuel isn't getting into the engine yet or you got too much fuel in and its now flooded.

Couple things to try. Take the choke off and hold the throttle all the way down and start pulling. If you can pull it 15-20 times like this and it doesn't start, you didn't flood it.

I'd then go back to full choke and start pulling again.

If she still doesn't start, I'd pull the spark plug out and pour a little bit of gas directly into the cylinder. Put the plug back in and pull the rope. It should fire and probably sputter and die. Keep doing that until the carb starts pumping on its own.

Another thing I just thought of was the On/Off switch. I had read in another post where some guys were getting them wired backwards for some reason. Pull the spark plug out, leave it connected to the plug wire and rest it on a metal part of the engine. When you pull the rope, the plug will spark. See which On/Off position allows the plug to spark.

You'll get it going. Keep trying.

hansons the man. must have been flooded. took the choke off, fired her up with the throttle down, and she started up fine. let her run for a few minutes, drilled some holes. turned it off for a few minutes. tried conventional startup and she ran fine. thank you sir.

now mine will not start - few years old strikemaster and always been a good runner.

anyway finally went to go fishing by myself today and i cant get gas to the carb. the fuel line is clear and i can see air in it. gas only goes about 1 inch into the fuel line.

I had the gas not going up the line to carb problem i took it apart and found some dirt in the little ports to the carb they are only 1/8" groves so it doesn't take much gave them a good shot of wd-40 put it back together and runs good again
