Battle Between the Hand Augers

So today at Christmas I brought up the subject of Nils hand augers to my die hard ice fishing Grandpa

He says nothing will out cut his Strikemaster Lazer hand auger and I disagreed

I bet him $100 that the Nils will beat him

I have to go buy one tomorrow at the "Foremost Outfitter"

Do you guys think I will win?

Once you get the technique of the Nils down you will beat any hand auger out there. Heck its faster than many power augers I have seen.

I have a Lazer hand auger and when the blades are SHARP its a very fast hand auger but it doesnt come close to my Nils.

Like I said there is a learning curve with the Nils hand auger but once you get the hang of that your a cutting machine.

Like Northlander mentioned it's a totally different technique but once you learn to use it it's very fast. The handle is offset and not center like most hand augers.

Bigslugger, What size hole is he cutting? Get the Nils 6" or smaller, if he's pushing an 8" you should beat um! Was there a size agreement?

you lose if ur doing the bet on the first time using it.. it takes some practice.. Get your 100 ready.. I like the lazer anyways.

We are talking hand augers man. Like I said I have used about every hand auger made in the last 50-60 years and my Nils is the fastest cutting hand auger I have used. My Lazer would be second.

As far as power augers go I havent seen a OUT OF THE BOX auger that is faster than my Nils.

Those Competition augers are not every day augers.

Getting back to the hand augers. If you can master the motion of the Nils hand auger it will be surprisingly fast. Some guys struggle to get it down because they have used the traditional hand augers so long but with practice anyone can do it. Heck if I can figure it out anyone can.
