Working the Holidays?

I understand the difficulties of working Holidays. I have missed every holiday, birthday, and anniversary at least once over the past 8 years. As an active duty member of the military, you really appreciate time with the family. Lucky for me, I am living back in MN (still active duty) and havent missed much over the past two years.

Yup, be thankful you have work. Some people (many) dont have any.

I work outdoors, and when its 5 degrees outside and Im tromping thru a foot and half of snow, my feet and hands are cold, and feeling miserable, I need to remind myself that I have study work and many are not that fortunate.

Yep, I too am one of the lucky ones that gets to work every-other holiday. But it is the profession that I choose so it isn't too bad. Working till 3am and Christmas is my holiday off! I have new years eve off but work at 0700 the next morning. But I am glad to have a job as I have a few friends that have been laid off and lost there jobs too. Have a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.

I agree with choosing your job. I knew and still know what comes with being in the military. But I also know that I get a paycheck the 1st and the 15th of every month, my family has full medical and dental, and that there will be food on the table ever night. It all depends on each person and what is worth it to them.

Be glad you work, but at the same time working the holiday's is not fun. I used to always have to do that. I now get my holiday's off and love it. It would be very hard to be away from my family this time of year so I feel for you. Have a great Christmas even though you're working.

I am working Christmas. I chose my profession and knew nights, weekends and holidays were part of the deal. I am very thankful to have employment as a number of my family members have lost their jobs or been laid off this year.

Navyfishin, thank you for your service.

Merry Christmas to all.

Be happy you got a job. I got three weeks off over the holiday because of slow business. It sucks though that you got to work on Chirstmas day. Hope you have a Merry chirstmas and happy new year.

Same here but 2 weeks instead of 3. I worked for the railroad for 15 years and it seemed like we were always sitting in a hotel room for the holidays. I quit there in '91 because of that.

My future wife and I just purchased a dog kennel so now we are working 10 hour days 7 days a week. What do ya do the dogs need to play, we hate having the pups in there rooms so there out playing about 6 hours a day. Our families are being very supportive and working around our schedule so we are very thankful we get to see them

But on the down side, we don’t get to go ice fishing anymore

We’ll get out a few times im sure.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
