Mid day scrape

Recommended Posts

On monday my party of three had sat in stand for 5 hours before we couldnt make it any more. we all met at the designated area. you must walk along a funnel next to a river and a hill to get their. All three of us walked through there. Went another 80yds away from the funnel and ate lunch. always keeping an eye on the North opening of the funnel. We break up from lunch and walk through the funnel. All of a sudden I look on the trail and there are 2 3x3 ft scrapes and 2 smaller scrapes that were not there before lunch. On the 2 larger scrapes the ground is rough and grass and dirt are everywhere. the track in the dirt behing the scrape was as long as my thumb is to my pointer finger.

My quesion is 1) how long could it take to make that many scrapes?

2) Is crying a legitimate alternative to not seeing this deer

I'd figure out the way he probably comes to the scrape and set up down wind, you learned a good lesson, in thick enough cover, where a buck can feel fairly safe even in the daytime, he'll check those scrapes when he wants to, my 14 pointer I took Sunday morning came at 8:01 AM to his scrape. On my trail cam I had 12 different bucks coming to 1 scrape from Oct.19th-Nov.2nd. 4 were considered decent enough to harvest, got 1 of the 4. It doesn't take em long to check them, since the scrape is there, he probably was hoping that a estrous doe walked through it, once he knew that wasn't the case kicked them up again to let does know, hey you want me ladies, leave your scent and I'll find ya.
