Fish Line

danfall

Question

I want to hear recommendations for fishing line.

Specifically for open water fishing during freezing temperatures from 20-35 degrees. I will be trolling spinners. 6 lb test is desired, could drop to 4#

I'm worried about line twist the most. I obviously intend to use a single swivel, but have contemplated a swivel/leader/swivel combination as well.

Also, is there an internal search anymore? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance.

There is an internal search, it's at the top of every thread. Right between FAQ and Active Topics.

I like Gamma Copolymer and P-Line Flouro Ice. Those are just about the only lines I use ice fishing and both would work great for rigging in cold water too. Lots of guys on this board use and recommend those lines.

All 4# tested.

I like Silverthread, any brand. I have not use the AN40 for ice fishing so that may not work. However both Super and Xcaliber lines have proven to be very reliable. That's a bulk spool on the Xcaliber of over ten years on the shelf.

I used both Gamma and Yozuri open water lines for ice fishing all of last year and while the Yozuri is more stiff normally it wasn't as prone to cold coil memory as the Gamma after a prestretch. I was not able to get some Gamma Ice line in 4# so I did not have that to compare.
