HNTNBUX
Trigger I think the reason people shoot little bucks is because they want to. Not to be a smartxxx, but if that is what you want, then do it. The deer are only going to get big if given the time to grow, whether that means fewer days hunting, timing of the season, drawing for bucks based on permit areas, etc. Dead deer don't get bigger. I don't think it is fair to shoot small bucks and then ask why you don't see any big ones. It can be a vicious cycle. If people are not happy shooting a small buck then don't shoot it. If shooting a small buck makes you happy then shoot it. I don't think anyone should complain about only shooting small deer and then keep doing it. Like most serious hunters I could be done with my season by now but I have made the decision not to shoot any deer yet, my wife feels the same way as everyone elses by the way. If you are not seeing the type of deer that you want to shoot something has to change. That could be your hunting area, state, or your own individual management practice. I don't expect the DNR to do it for me. I wish they would help by changing the season or going to a buck lottery, that would tell us how many true meat hunters are out there. But in the mean time I do what I can to increase my odds. I hunt as much as I can in an area that has deer. If I did not see deer I would find a new place to hunt plain and simple. I also eat a lot of tags and it doesn't bother me one bit. I would rather hunt all year long and not shoot a buck than shoot a little one. Like I said before you can not keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results. I started deer hunting when I was twelve years old and have missed two hunting seasons when I was in basic training and in Korea. I did not shoot a deer until I was 22 years old. Guess what, I changed hunting areas, started hunting with a bow, hunting more than a week a year, going out of state, and working my rear end off so that I can do it. I save all of my vacation time and money to hunt and fish. Even then I still eat a lot of tags, but if I am still on stand Decemeber 31st looking for a buck I still have a chance.
