Admittedly, I haven't seen a ton of loons, but I've never seen loons sleeping like this. I assume the wind was from their right side, considering they're all facing the other direction.

Open water was on Garden Lake. Some of it has opened in the last two days from shore to shore. Saw two separate flocks of loons of about a dozen each. This flock actually had 8 of 'em with their heads down, but the others must have been lookouts and were in between the sleepers. Picked these four and snapped away!

Great shot, Ken! I saw one loon in Henderson, MN at Buck's lake last week. Pretty rare for them to be down south.
