Time to hit Gomez lower?

Carlos Gomez just doesn't seem to understand the concept of being a leadoff hitter. Instead of taking these monsterous homerun cuts, he needs to shorten up his stroke hit the ball on the groung. He's the fastest kid in the Majors, and he needs to start taking advantage of it!

He seldom takes a pitch and swings out of his arse and then makes a bush league punt attempt on 0-2 before whiffing on a dirtball.

He's around .266 which was the the league average last year but he looks like a kid swinging a butterfly net at the plate.

He is good if there isnt anyone on the bases, he can bunt, but when there is someone on the bases, he is swinging ugly. I am not ready to send him to the minors, but maybe batting 8th or 9th until he improves some.

ummm he can bunt huh.......I think he needs alot of work on his bunting skills along with learning how to take a walk....maybe start by making him walk down to AAA!!! then see if he can make it back....

Scouts are good. Everyone has already noticed he can't lay off a slider or curve a foot outside, & he can't reach it, either. Gomez will either figure it out, or his average will dive under the Mendoza line & he'll be on the bench within two weeks.

I'd rather he play every day and work on bunting and pitch selection in the minors than sit on the bench.

This is nothing other than standard growing pains that young players go through...the league adjusted to him, now he needs to 'adjust back'.

To be a major league player, you have to be able to adjust through the course of a season. Good players can adjust through the course of a game. Great players can adjust through the course of an at-bat. Goes for pitchers and hitters alike.

The young starters...Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, even Bonser...along with Gomez and even Young...will all go through these same 'growing pains' this year. If they can make the adjustments, they can all be very, very good next year. But there will be some rough patches this season...

Gomez is a young player and hes shown signs of greatness, not to mention he is a very solid center fielder.

I just wish he would take Joe Mauers approach at the plate - and mauer should take some of Go-Gos!
