rundrave
did you measure you belt deflection? did you take the belt off and inspect everything? How do the clutch buttons and shims look?It could also be the sprag bearing in your clutch is starting to go bad. The center groved pully in the clutch should turn freely in one direction and lock in the other direction. When the sprag goes bad it locks in both directions. If a machine sits for a while it can lock up. Have you tried riding it for a while and seeing if it continues. That would answer alot of questions. Get the belt warm and see if it continues. JP Z
I''m Just Bringing it in Wed. Need the Yearly service done anyways on the thing. (And I've already got it sitting on the trailor ready.) Thanks for the tips......I'll just wait and see if that was the problem and let you know.
JP Z
The Clutch needed to be shimmed, and the needle valve was bad in the Carb. So a nice little $300 yuck yuck.........And the Belt was wearing, mostly related to the clutch shimming.

Roofer
I'll take a guess and say that it was from using High range when low range should have been used. Very common. Glad you got it fixed.
JP Z
Same shop, I need to look back at the service records and figure out the deal.........and honestly I don't even know WHEN to use Low Range...........just happened after I'd gotten stucken in some divets plowing that last big snow. Dave
Use low range for speeds from about 10mph and lower.
JP Z
Good to know, I've always been told High range unless you are towing slowly or the like.........and technically I think I'm faster than 10mph when plowing...
Dave S
I would personally use low range for plowing snow, at least the wet heavy slop that we've been getting lately. Also use low for towing heavy loads.
Dave
Slowly navigating trails, towing, plowing. Those are the times I use low range.

JP Z
Well since it's almost a year to the date when this happened last I might as well tack onto this post that my "wonderful" atv wants to creep again. And I even used Low gear like I was supposed to. So my question is this, should i be expecting to have to shim the clutch yearly? Also my foot brake seems to be shot from get frozen any ideas? Thanks,
