What did I catch?

Was at the river tonight off Blackdog and caught this little guy. What kind of fish is it??

Sorry about the quality just grabbed my cell quick as a friend held it.

The second pic is not a minnow on a jig. My friend actually caught that little guy somehow.

It almost has the look of a mooneye or goldeneye, but with the picture quality it is hard to tell for sure.

i think i had a smaller one on a beetlespin one time but didn't get a picture.

and there is no way i am giving up the honeyhole where i caught this

What is the difference between a gizzard shad and a goldeneye/mooneye/skipjack.

Gizzard shad usually have a dark spot behind the gill opening, but your best bet is looking at the dorsal fin. Their last dorsal fin ray is usually really long.
