Spring Break 2009- Trip Suggestions

nitroant

Question

Not sure where to put this, so I will start here and it can be moved if need be.

Want to go somewhere warm next Spring with the GF for spring break. I have been to Mexico and she has not been anywhere and doesn't really have a desired place to go, other than somewhere warm. We are looking to find an all inclusive trip for around $3500-4000 for the both of us. Looking for suggestions on where to go. We are not really looking to do any fishing or even any shopping or exploring, just sit by the beach or pool and watch the sun move across the sky everyday. We are trying to get a jump on this now so we can save up the money and try to book the trip at the best price. Thanks for any advice.

We did an all inclusive to a Sandals resort in Jamacia. It included Scuba diving to try if you wanted. It was great. Or there are all inclusives in the Dominican. I think the beaches in the Dominican are better.

Last year I went to the Mayan Riviera, which is south of Cancun. Stayed at a place called Barcelo Maya. Really nice, all-inclusive resort. The beach at the resort had awesome scuba and snorkeling. I went out in a boat and you can see bottom in 40ft. Also went fishing for Marlin. The hotel and airfare were purchased together for $1100 per person - Wednesday to Monday. My brother went down there and stayed at a more exclusive and small resort called El Dorado which is incredible. He said it runs about $1800 per person for a week.

Mid-lake,

Good to hear! We're staying there for our honeymoon in 2 months. Could you shoot me an e-mail (look in my profile for the address)?

Thanks.

Costa Rica is on my list, along with Vietnam for tropical vacations. A friend of mine works eight months then spends four on the beaches of Vietnam. He's been all over the world and he claims Vietnam has the best beaches. I also like many destinations in Europe. Was lucky enough to spend a college semester in Ireland, then spend six weeks hitting many other countries. My problem these days is that I spend all my vacation money fishing in MN.

That price range should include most of the Carribean and Central America. Jamaica is a good first trip. Make sure you stay in Negril along 7 mile beach or a couple of the newer resorts futher north for best beach. We did St. Thomas on our honeymoon but didn't care for it. We took a day trip to the British V.I.'s and liked the atmophere alot better. Curacao was OK. Very windy and desolate island. Did a cool snorkeling trip on a 90' double mast sailing ship. Wish I had had the 12 guage along for the flying fish taking off from the bow wake. Costa Rica has probably been our favorite. We did quite a few activities. Fly into Liberia and stay on the Pacific coast. Great tasting, cheap food. Pacific is a bit cool and murky for great snokeling. Next trip is planned for Belize. Had a plan for a 10 day trip with 3 nights in the rain forest and then relocating to a beach on one of the islands in Carribean. Not sure how we're going to do Belize. So far, we have stayed at smaller sized hotels and avoided all inclusive. Gives us the chance to really get out and explore restaurants that the locals reccommend. We've also done the math and don't think we can eat and drink that much. Most people love the all inclusive though.

My wife and I are going to Cancun this may at an all inclusive 4 star resort (Sun Palace). For 4 nights it's costing us ~$2000 so I'd think a 7 night trip would be right in your price range.

Went on a cruise last spring. It was great, but it isn't the just lay by the beach thing you mentioned you were looking for. Mexico is a pretty safe bet for the weather and you should be able to get into a really nice place in your price range. If you are willing to hold out, sometimes you can get some really good deals a few weeks before you leave. My parents(who travel much more than my wife and I do) usually set a week aside and keep watching for good deals and usually book about a week to 2 weeks before they leave. They took a 5 star all inclusive to Puerto Vallarta last year for $1900 total(flight, room, meals, drinks). Just something to consider. Good luck and have fun!
