walleyewild
Looking for opinions on the big man seats that Cabela's sells. Is it worth replacing my 12 year old Lund seats with these? I put in air adjustable pedestals a couple of years ago and am looking for a higher back and wider seat as I get a little older and the aches and pains don't go away as quickly as they used to. Thanks WW It's the advanced angler II big mans seat, they don't come with arm rests.
Northlander
I also looked at them. The Lund Captains seats I looked at are very very nice but BIG BIG bucks. The Cabelas ones look like a good alternative. Im curious if anyones running them as well.
bassNspear
we have been selling a ton of the captains chairs for the Crestliners, there some coin, but people love them to much to say no.
Northlander
I need a nice tall seat for my Lund Explorer but it cant have perm arm rests. I have to be able to lift both. Looks like the Cabelas seat has perm mounted arm rests?
Tom7227
I'm a FOWG and I bought some of those seats from Cabelas last year. They're nice. If memory serves they were in the bargain room by mid-summer so a bit of a wait may save some dollars. I had to replace the pedestals and had a heck of a time finding sets that were complete. Not happy with the ones I got as I can't extract them easily. Any hints on that problem?
loejay
I went to the salvage yard and got a seat from a mini-van some of them come with 2 captains chairs in the second row of seats. They have armrests that fold up and they also recline. Best seat I've got. You have to fabricate a mount for it. I did mine with alum angle
Valv
One issue to consider is the base of the seat post. When you add a larger and taller seat you will increase the load on floor base. A new boat might be ok, but an older will probably run into problems pulling screws out if not the whole seat base, especially if leaning or bouncing a lot.You should see if it's possible to reinforce the seat base by adding a metal (aluminum or stainless steel) plate underneath the floor, this will spread the extra force through a wider area and won't tear the base off.Otherwise try to take it easy on the seat, don't use it as a recliner at the house. In theory car seats would be fine, but be sure to get leather type. Tom7227
Isn't a car seat going to get moldy? They can't be as waterproof as a regular boat seat? Sounds like a neat thing to do but you better have one heck of a floor when you recline that baby or you're going to be rolling around on the floor like a carp out of water. traveler
I went thru 2 sets of the big man seats over a period of years on my 16 ft. lund. Excellent seats, although they were wood, not plastic framed and my boat spent a lot of time outside so the first set didn't last all that long (5 years?) Mine had no armrests. Seabass77
I am 6'2" and about 195 lbs and they were way too big for me. I went with the standard size of the same seats, camo and the quality has been fantastic. They have held up very well. I would recommend them, just be sure to see them in person first. loejay
Good point Val.I cut most of the extra weight off the seat. But if u seen the size of one of my fishing buddys that seat won't hurt anything! I have had it for 5 years and no problem with mold. Keep it inside.
