Electric fillet knife

Recommended Posts

I just buy new blades about once a year. Around 7 or 8 bucks if I remember right.

I rarely use anything but my electric. Initially I thought maybe I was losing a little of the filets as well, but with practice, I now think I'm better with it than I am with a regular filet knife. Cleaned 20 bluegills yesterday didn't cut through a single backbone...a really nice bag of fish. One of the problems I always have with the traditional knives is keeping them sharp enough to do a good job.

I clean alot of fish and I need to do it quickly as clients are normally waiting and I swear by my Rapala knife. Its fast and once I got the feel for it I can fillet fish faster and better using it. I even learned a how to tip the knife and "pop" the rib bones then use the serrated blade to drag the rib bones out of the fillet. I used to clean fish for fifty cents a peice at the resort while I was growing up and if I had a electric knife in those days I could have been on rich thirteen year old.

I have had a electric for over 15 years now. I think its a cheap American Angler. Its corded but has the plug for a cig lighter and has a cord about 15-20' long. I have done tons of fish with it and it keeps going. Im on my 3rd set of blades now and can no longer find them around here.

My next electric knife will be a cordless rechargable. A lot easier than messing with the cord all the time.

I've had the Rapala with all the power options for a couple of years now and really like it.

At a minimum it seems like the blades stay sharper over the long run than a conventional knife does, which is a big plus in my book.
