HOLY HANNA,

I didn't realize that there is still a possibility of trying these out, I'd love to give em a go, as I have had dismal results with the gulp grubs so far this ice season.

I would love to try anything you have Dave, and give you some feedback right away. Thanks!

I am e-mailing you now.

WildFanFisherman,
Sorry, you have missed this FREE test offer on Bio-Bait Ice Bits LARVA and Shiner / Mealworm.
Keep an eye out here though... as Richard will be testing other Bio-Bait "flavors" in a simular fashon.
FYI, I do have a "Special" going on my site at www.catch-n.com where you can get a FREE sample of LARVA Ice Bits with a $25.00 purchase of items... and this $25.00 minimum order comes with free shipping. Any order under $25.00 adds $4.95 shipping and handeling.
There are many items on the site for ice fishing, including full sized Bio-Bait in Crawler, Leech, Shiner / Mealworm and Crayfish (all can be "pinched-off" to any size). Also available for ice fishing are the Panfish and Walleye Willospoons.

Now is not a bad time to purchase plastics either, as you do not risk "out of stock" from the spring buyng rush.
Thanks for your interest in testing Bio-Bait.

Thanks CrappieMagnet.
What did you think of the size of ICE BITS?
Richard says he may do one that is about three times that big that is about a minnow head size.

I expect Catch-N Tackle will not be selling much of the ICE BITS now for open water... (ICE BITS being an ice season product) but, I do expect to move bunches of Bio-Bait in the larger size for river and open water fishermen. It is just too handy not to have with!
I know Richard is getting geared up for the "gotta have some right before opener" mad rush.
I know full sized Bio-Bait preformed very well in open water from our field-tests last summer & fall. It will be interesting to see how Bio-Bait does this open water season... regionally.
I am excited smile.gif and just love the products.

Dave...

Why not ask Richard to make a small, medium and large, icebit? That way it should work in any situation...ice or open water.I'm really looking forward too using them, this spring on my favorite fishing holes looking for those big slabs.

Dave,
I expect to have at least 2 to 3 more weeks of safe ice here in the Vermilion area.
I would very much like to try out your products and will gladly post my findings on FM.

Thanks for the chance to test this new product. I had little luck with either Bio-Bait scent I tried. They were used on fish that were VERY reluctant to bite and did not seem to be the determining factor in the occaisoinal bite. Perhaps in the time of the soft water?

I bought some ice bits this winter just to try them out and didn't catch anything on them. I tried them on Waubay for perch, Spirit Lake and Okaboji for crappie and bluegill, and several other southern Mn lakes. I would always test them out after i had located and caught some fish to see if they would bite on the ice bits. no luck. good idea though and handy. i'm going to try it on some ice out crappies.

Catch'n,
I started off my season with a trip to Lake of the Woods where the Bio-Bait worked very well for tipping jigging Raps and Chubby Darters. It did seem to trigger more bites. Throughout the rest of the year while mixing them in with wax worms and wigglers I did notice a little drop off from the fresh for panfish, but not that much. Maybe 75% as effective. IMHO, the drawback is that you have to let them soak before using them. That takes a little time when bouncing around from hole to hole. The biggest positive for me is that you can throw them in a tackle box and keep them there. That will be especially nice in the summer when the other stuff won't work and I can throw on a Bio-Bait. I rarely fish with waxies in the summer, but now I can have a similar presentation without having to make a trip to the bait shop before every outing.
Thank you for the opportunity to try them,
Marty

Catch'n,
I'm sorry that I missed the chance to test some Bio-Bait and Catch-N tackle. We have over 48 inches of ice currently on our lakes in the interior of Alaska, on some of the higher lakes over 56 inches. It was -20F last night and suppose to drop to -30F tonight! We're still gaining ice! We will be Ice fishing till the end of April! If you guys wanted some of this stuff tested on rainbows, land locked silvers, grayling and char, keep me in mind!!! Because of trapping season we don't start ice fishing until February. I'm going out spearing pike this weekend.

Dave, thanks for letting me test your product. I used them crappie fishing in Northern MN but didn't have alot of luck. I would start catching crappies and then switched to them. Mostly they preferred minnows. They did work good for tipping small jigging Raps though. I think a little larger size would be beneficial. I carried mine around in water in a plastic film container in my shirt pocket. This kept them ready to use. Most of the crappie water I fish they prefer minnows to larvae so I don't think it is the fault of your product. It does stay on the hook well.

Having tried the ice bits, I found that they work great for perch and panfish in fact the last of my stash was stolen by a mad group of bluegills last weekend! grin.gif ice bits are a good alternative to waxies.
When they seem to hit on minnows and then slow down try the meal worm shiner it's another good choice for perch and eyes.
Add a piece of mealworm to a hook and you have a flavored floater with excellent bouyency,(Thanks for that floater tip, Matt) mealworm on a hook tipped with a shiner worked good for eyes on LOTW.
I have not tried the leech yet but as soon as I am in the boat it will be on the hook and ready for a test run.

Thanks for the opportunity to test the bait. I used them on Lake of the Woods all winter. Right away I didn't have any luck with them but as the season went on they seemed to work a little better. The fish did seem to prefer minnows though. But I did catch some smaller walleyes with them on a small glow jig. I also think it would be better if they were bigger.

Wallyediver, thanks for the report!
Yep, my feeling exactly. Rich is thinking the full sized product will sell for winter too... it is up to a couple of inches long and looks much like a Cheeto. Bits of it can be pinched off to any size.

Still sending them out for testing? If so, I'd love some! How do I go about giving you my info? I'd like to try them during the open-water season and see how well they work. Or are they too soft when thawed?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
