Here's an interesting one. A good friend who lives on the lake called me the other day, he was casting a chartreus spinner bait off his dock last Tuesday. He caught two walleyes, a 16 1/2 and a 17 incher.

Later in the day thinking he had a good weed pattern going, he fished crawlers off the weed edge in 8' of water. After growing tired of sunfish stealing his bait, he again grabbed his rod with the spinner bait. In short order he had two more walleye, an 18 and a 19 incher!

Now I'm gonna be up there again this weekend but there is no way I'm gonna be seen tossing a bass bait for walleye. blush I will however be searching those weed beds a bit more seriuosly than in the past.

With bow season opening this weekend, my fishing time may begin to suffer, but oh well....this is the time of year we've waiting for. Never enough time for everything, but by God I'm gonna give it my best shot. Good luck all!

The reports Im hearing from my pals that hunt and fish up there ,,,They cant find a tree still standing in 2 of the areas they have hunted for more then 20 years ,,,The pal that lives up there had almost all the birds frequenting his feeders never come back after the storm ,,,The orioles and cardinals just dissapeared but the hummers did come back ,,,,They did some preseason scouting and found enough carcasses in the woods to question weather its worth hunting this season

Good Luck to those able to get out this weekend

Got on the water late Saturday evening. Tried to pull those bigger walleye out of the weeds with no luck. Finally got a 16 incher from 13 FOW. I rarely stay past dark, but was such a beautiful night I just had to stay on the water. Caught a couple more short ones and a pretty nice pike trolling cranks along the weedlines.

Sunday morning a buddy came up and we fished in the cold rain. Had a pretty good morning. Kept three from 16 1/2 - 18". Lots of smaller fish and finished the day with a big sucker. blush All fish came from 15 - 16 FOW. Still no noticable difference between crawlers and leeches.

The sturgeon guys have been doing pretty good from what I heard. I know of a 62" and a 68" caught this week, with pretty good numbers of fish being boated.

packman, where is your trailer? We've been really happy about our move to Yellow.

Honestly, I usually start hunting pretty much full time this time of year, so my personal knowledge of fall fishing is limited. That being said, here's what I know. They do catch fish at night trolling or casting raps in the shallows after dark. The narrows going into Little Yellow is a popular spot. Bobber fishing with fatheads/small suckers or shinners can produce anytime on this lake. The only issue with trolling is there are weeds floating all over and you can often spend more time clearing fouled hooks as you do actually fishing.

Stay in touch and maybe we can get together next summer.

Good luck!

The weather man whiffed big time this weekend. Cold and windy on Yellow all weekend. No warm sunshine as promised.

Got to spend a few hours on the lake Saturday evening. Caught several fish, all between 12 & 16 FOW. Only one keeper, a nice 16 1\2 incher caught on a slow trolled crawler.

This morning, just a few more hours, only one fish caught. A 22 incher! Biggest in my boat in quite a while. She's still swimming. This fish also came on a crawler in about 9'.

The water temp really dropped this week, was just under 60 degrees this morning. 74 just only two weeks ago.

afternoon Donbo

we are at stuerts leasure, we were a little hesitant about going up to yellow because of the drive, we have 2 small kids so there is some screaming the last 1/2 hour. notice you are using alot of crawlers.i was told by a few guys at our resort that they use leaches. but found out you cant get any up north. we are going to be up over the 15th of oct for the full moon. maybe even throw a few musky baits if we get bored

Where are you staying? It was my understanding that Stuarts closes Oct 1st. No longer true? We looked there before we moved to Log Cabin Hollow. I hunt in the area and needed access to my trailer well into November, they said "no way".

Anyway, Wild Bills at the north end of Webster still has leeches, and yes they still work. smile

Some really mixed results this weekend. Friday evening ended up with one 17 incher and a few shorts, all on crawlers up near the weed edges.

Saturday morning next to nothing, then headed out again early afternoon and put three keepers in the boat in about an hour and a half. All verticle jigging (pink jig w/fatheads) right up in the weed edge. Back again in the evening with a couple other guys, nothin. Go figure.

Sunday morning, two more 17 - 18 inchers, again jigging on the edge of the weeds. Very few shorts this weekend.

Pulled the docks Saturday morning, winterized the camper and put the boat to bed for the winter. frown So sorry, but this will be the last fishing report from me for a while. It's off to Mille Lac this weekend for the full moon piggies, then I'll be hunting pretty much non-stop till well into December. Anyone fishing Yellow in the meantime, please keep the reports coming. See ya..... cool

Hit Yellow today off of Jeffries from 7am-12pm, 10-15ft deep and it was pretty slow: 1 dinky walleye, 1 16 inch walleye, about 8 or so fairly small perch. Also had shiners on tip ups and no flags. When do those Jumbo Perch start hitting? I had some good days out there a couple of years ago.

kuda, thanks for the report. I think the perch fishing should get better as the winter moves on, though I've had better luck in deeper water than you were in. Sorry to hear about the pike, was hoping to get a few myself for pickling.

Better luck next time!

Question for you locals: How much snow did you get up there? Think it will limit vehicle traffic on the lake?

Looking for somewhere to go this weekend.
